Steemit Philippines Photography Contest Week 7: Celebrating New Years Eve in Darkness

New year new life, its a usual statement I hear from people. Usually we celebrate New year with so much excitement and happiness. Prepare the best food and wait up till its midnight. Its usually a time to reunite with family members from a far.

The pictures I chose are the pictures we had on New Years Eve, my mom visited us despite our situation. We had no electricity and didn't have a grand dinner prepared for New Year. But we had each other.

My mom is one of the most special person in my life. I know without her I wouldn't be the person I am now. She has always motivated me woth all of her advice and food for thought. She tells me how to overcome struggles and challenges in life.

Our New Year's Eve Meal is just fried fish, liempo and Nilat ang baboy and our neighbor gave us Biko. These food would be a common food we have on usual days. But my kids were still happy. It may not be much but being together is much more important.

We took some photos to remind us of this wonderful day. Simple yet memorable. God united us and kept us safe during the typhoon was something I treasure the most.

The dark might have lessen our feeling of excitement for the New Year but the warmth of our love for each other brightened our faces for we are able to face the year 2022 with a healthy body.

Having a home to be in on this time of difficulty is something I am thankful of, having food on our table is a blessing and being able to spend the night with the people I love is a gift I will forever treasure.

Simple things make me happy, it is just something common but its precious for me. This photograph will be something that will remind me of my courage. Courage to face the difficulty of being alone in this calamity, I had to be the pillar of my family since my husband is away from us. I am able to face the end of the year standing still. Pandemic and typhoon didn't bring me down. With the people I love with me and God to keep us safe WE HAD SURVIVED.
