The late M. Abdur Rahim (1926-2016 AD)
M. Abdur Rahim is a respected and respected person as an organizer of the great liberation war. In the long political cycle, he has provided courage, inspiration and inspiration to the people of Dinajpur from the seat of leadership. M. Abdur Rahim was born on 19th November 19th in Dinajpur to an aristocratic Muslim family. He passed Entrance from Rajshahi Government Madrasa, Higher Secondary from Rangpur Carmichael College and after passing BA from Rajshahi College in 1956 he was admitted in the Law Department of Dhaka University. After obtaining LLB degree from Dhaka University in 1959, he started his legal career as a lawyer in 1970 at Dinajpur Bar. From his education he joined the Bengali independence movement against the evil forces of Pakistan. Due to his political wisdom and strong leadership he became a close companion of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was one of the members of the Legal Aid Committee in the historic Agartala conspiracy case filed against Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In 1970, he was elected Member of Provincial Council (MNA) as a candidate of Awami League.

During the War of Liberation he became the Chairman of the Western Zone of the Mujibnagar Government and played an unforgettable role as the organizer of the Great War of Liberation. During the visit, he held several one-on-one meetings with the Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi and her faithful colleague Pranab Mukherjee (former President of India) as a representative of the Mujibnagar government and provided overall food and medical care to the refugees in the refugee camps in India. The then Pakistani military ruler tried him in a military tribunal and sentenced him to life in prison for treason. After the victory on 16 December 1971, the flag of the first independent Bangladesh was officially hoisted at Dinajpur Gore-e-Shaheed Bara Maidan on 16 December at 11 am. Does. He successfully served as one of the members of the constitution drafting committee of independent Bangladesh. After independence, he devoted himself to the reconstruction of the war-torn greater Dinajpur region and served as chairman of the Relief and Rehabilitation Committee. As the Vice President of the Central Committee of the post-independence Bangladesh Awami League under the leadership of Bangabandhu, he made special contribution in the formation of the party. He was re-elected as a Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-3 constituency in 1991 and provided strong leadership to the movement against the rape and murder of Yasmin in 1995.

M. Abdur Rahim is the main initiator of establishing most of the social, cultural, educational, service and religious institutions in Dinajpur. Under his leadership, the Central Shaheed Minar in Dinajpur, Diabetic Hospital, Gaosul Azam Eye Hospital, Red Crescent Hospital for the treatment of war-wounded freedom fighters and a rehabilitation center for women victims of the liberation war have been established. The people of Dinajpur will always remember him with respect for his honesty, sense of principle, ideals, patriotism, genuine love for the people and his unique contribution in the political, social and educational fields. His contribution in the war of liberation is unforgettable. The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh in 2016 for his outstanding contribution to the great liberation war. Abdur Rahim has been posthumously awarded the 'Independence Medal', the highest honor in the country. This great leader passed away on September 4, 2016.
