Mabuhay Steemit Philippines!
I wish everyone is in good health always specially this time of health challenged.
Filipinos has a lot's of culture to mention. But the most memorable that instill in my heart was the Christmas celebration. Filipinos has the longest time celebrating Christmas. Everyone feels the happiness deep within no matter what we've been through, the spirit of Christmas is always in our hearts. One of the most exciting part for me was the manito-manita culture or practiced. The exchanging of Christmas gifts.
In our factory every December before we had a Christmas holiday we had a short celebration in every department. We ate together and also we had a manito-manita the exchanging of gifts.
Mostly, around five months before December our department agreed to have a sinking fund in a small amount collected every salary. That would be intended budget for our food preparation. We did that so that we will not be burdened with the contribution when that day comes. One person was incharged to handle the money and another will helped collect the money. We worked together in such a way not too heavy if only one person to handle it. Every member of our department was cooperating and coordinating.
About two weeks before that day, we draw-lots for our manito-manita. We did it in advanced so that we had enough time to buy and prepare for our gifts for our manito-manita. In addition, the purpose was to aware if it's a boy or a girl. Most of all, in that two weeks time some of our colleagues would sometimes hear what he wanted as a gift from his manito or manita whoever got his name. In that way it also has the advantage and got an idea what to buy.
A day before that event everything was finalized including the food preparation. There were assigned individuals who would prepare the food and drinks. Everyone has a gift for our manitos and manitas.
When the day comes everyone was excited. The most exciting moments was the giving of gifts to our manitos and manitas. Since we didn't knew and had no idea who got our names. We just surprised the time our colleagues handed-over their gifts to us. While giving the gifts one by one after another, we sang a song "I love my manito". It has so much fun and everyone enjoyed. After that event everyone went to our respective home.
For me, this is the Filipino culture that we loved most. That's how we celebrated.
I am inviting @liamnov, @angelycong and @analizasuperales to have their entry too.
Thank you all for your time. God bless us all!
Truly Yours,
@maris75
