Steemit Philippines - Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 8 (Week 1) || "The Power of Social Media"

Hello my fellow beloved steemians, I'm very glad to be participating in this engagement challenge that particularly talks about the term "social media". I have so much to say but I'll try to make it short but pricise inorder to save time.

Okay... I'm currently 37years of age and I started engaging in social media when the use of smart phone came to existence and that was my 24 years. Personally speaking at first I never liked the idea of social media platforms especially Facebook, I felt that I was social enough and I didn't need a platform to show it. But there came a period when I had to travel far away from my family and I knew that I needed to communicate with my son, I could call but I won't always have enough credit to talk for the amount of time that I needed to, then this realization hit me "Ill need Facebook" all of a sudden I saw the beauty in that particular social media platform, I could communicate with my kids, friends that I had in my former environment before I moved and I could meet new people and communicate with them and get to know them before I actually met them physically. This senero changed my mindset about social media and how I perceived it. Speaking about my experience so far I would say it is nothing short of Amazing, so far with the help of social media I have gotten to meet new people, stay connected with my family irrespective of the distance, make new friends and keep the ones I had, I have been able to promote my business, learn new things, I mean I even got on Steemit through social media platforms! And I see Steemit as a social media platform because I have gotten to learn alot and meet new people.

Social media depends on each mentality and
In my own opinion, Personally I would say the age of 14 is good enough for one to be involved in one or two social media platforms especially in this generation we're in with technology scalling new limits each day. While most people will disagree that 14 is too young or for some it's kinda late, I believe that early exposure to the positive and negative side of things helps us reorganize our minds on how things should be and to be able to do this is, there is a certain level of maturity that has to be achieved, and I think that the age of 14 is just perfect, it's a year after entering the teenage hood and the child begins to feel some sense of responsibility and realizes that he or she is growing and needs to expand he's or her horizons and not limit themselves to what is around them ESPECIALLY in this highly technological generation.

So many celebrities social media accounts is been handled by their pa so there are people who don't manage their accounts, so
People who are no longer responsible for managing their social media accounts?... This is a very technical one. I want to view this as the two sides of a coin, firstly I'll look at the celebs who are too busy to manage their accounts and hire people to do it for them, I don't think it's bad as long as they get to be in charge in the sense that it's only what they think should be put up on their social accounts is what is being put. Secondly I'll be considering those that sell their social media accounts, for me they're in a way giving a part of them out for sale, I mean your social media account is YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT and it should remain that way because it some information about you.

I only have an idea, BE CAREFUL with what you post about yourself on the social media platforms you're on, we all know that what we say determines how people respond to us, I also believe that what we post on social media platforms determines how people view, how they pictures (for those that have not met physically) and don't give out vital informations about yourself, I know it's called social media but you still have to keep some things to yourself.

With proper education on the benefits and of course the adverse effects of social media, I think it would the most powerful instrument in the hands of man. The thought of being able to grow your business without stepping out or pay a huge sum amount for advertisement is just WOW and mad. Learn from your room, and there are instances where you use social media platforms to LEARN inorder to EARN.

Everything in life has advantage and disadvantage, so I will like to start with the advantage of social media, The greatest advantage of social media for me is that

• I have been able to grow intellectually.
• I have been able to meet new people and stay connected with the ones that I already have. And the
• disadvantage for is that it is very time consuming and tempting.
• I have actually spent the time I had for reading to chat, in some cases I have spent 12hours if not more out of my day on social media. So I wouldn't know how to properly categorize the platforms but I'll try.
  Ok firstly the commonly used social media platforms in my country Nigeria are;

1. Facebook
2. WhatsApp
3. Instagram
4. Twitter
5. TikTok

Okay.... Facebook is categorized as the your first exposure to social platforms
WhatsApp is for those that appreciate chatting with those they know, mostly for those that don't really fancy getting to know people on the scale at which Facebook offers
Instagram is for the celebs, those who have data and those that do the flashy thing
Twitter is for news, cruise and it's for fun
... I think I'll just stop here cause I really don't know if am doing it properly.
