Ever since I was a little kid, I always find comfort in my grandma’s cooking abilities. As a child, everything that happens in the kitchen was magic. One moment I saw grandma just washing the pan and then next I saw her blowing a chip for me. My late granny holds a very special place in my heart not just because of the food she used to feed me but because of the love she made me feel.

Growing up, I have always remembered how the food my granny used to make in our little dirty kitchen in Bohol. I’ve ventured to places and tasted various delicacies and it always bring me back to the memories of my childhood. You can say that I am such a foodie. Well as a Filipino, I think that’s one common trait. Filipinos love to eat and to share it with everyone. So for today’s food blog, let me take you to one of my favorite restaurants that a dear friend owned - Nan’s Crib.

Nan’s Crib is located in the heart of Loon, Bohol 45 minutes away from Tagbilaran City. The owner, Joseph, conceptualized the restaurant wanting to bring warmth in everyone’s plate for a very affordable price. He wanted to serve Filipinos’ favorites with a homey ambiance slash vacation vibe.

I love the place so much and is a perfect place for dates without worrying about the cost. The place is so instagrammable and the food will take you down to the memory lane. Take a look at these.

These crisps are cassava crisps known as kabkab. This is made from ground cassava and is common in Mindanao and Visayas (Philippines).

This appetizer reminded me of my kindergarten years. Granny used to make these and she makes sure I bring a bunch of these to school to share with my bestfriend, Lilian. She used to have a garden of various fruits, vegetables, and root crops but this one is one of her favorites. I wish she knew how much I miss her and I wish I could snack on these with her.

After a real heart-wrenching appetizer moment comes the real deal, the all-time Filipino favorite, inihaw also known as sinugba or inasal.

Filipinos love rice so much that unli rice meals can lift our spirits up. The owner recognizes that because he himself is a rice lover as well. So instead of traveling to the city to enjoy Mang Inasal, he included in his menu these special treats which my granny used to love but as she aged she wasn’t able to enjoy these until her last moments. In the next life (if we are to be reborn), I want my granny to still be my granny then. So I can serve her these dishes and relish another remarkable life.

After that very satisfying and heart-warming meal is another food any Filipino craves for especially during summer season - halo-halo.

I have to say that this halo-halo recipe is the first halo-halo with apple that I have tried in my entire life. It’s new and exciting. The sweet juiciness of apple chunks adds to the very refreshing taste of this dessert. It made me wonder why the regular halo halo don’t have these? And oh the raisins as well! Does halo halo normally have these? I think I don’t know my halo halo very well. It might be one of my favorites but I haven’t really thought about its ingredients before. I was either focused on satiating my hunger or was enjoying the meal so much that these details slipped my mind. Anyway, this halo halo deserves a slow clap! The presentation matches its taste very well that won’t disappoint you.

Actually, everything in Nan’s Crib menu will never dissapoint you!
