'Mano' is a spanish word, which means 'hand' while 'Po' is a word of respect to anyone.

Mano or Pagmamano otherwise called Bless. The filipino family known as cherishing and kind and educated to respect not just with in their families and to those more established individuals that they simply meet. The Mano or Bless is aways done when you showed up or leaving the spot, and even to those elders you just met, especially to those people who are known to your parents.

There are still few children who would come to you and say 'Mano Po'. They would be getting or asking for your hand, then will be bowing their heads and have the top part of your hand touch to their forehead. You should respond by saying 'God bless you' or 'May the Lord bless you'

The 'Mano Po' is a perishing tradition in certain areas in the Philippines, especially to the cities. In my place it is still being practiced for I am living in the province. There's a lot of kids and we asked them always to do the 'Mano Po' to the elders.

For me showing respect to my elders is vital and Mano is one incredible demonstration to show my elders that they are respected and cherished.
