SEC-S17W1: "SEASONS OF MY COUNTRY"

• How many seasons in your country? Which one is your favourite and why?

In my country there are various seasons in display and I really am intrigued ad love the varying seasons too. There is is the dry or harmattan season and the wet or rainy season The dry season is characterised by lot of sunshine and heat too, the dry season is preceded by the harmattan which is the cold breeze which emanates from the desert which gives cold air at night and warm dry air during the day. The skin is usually dry during this season and it breaks the lips due to dryness.

During this period the night is extremely cold while the day is slightly hot and dry. This is a period of lingering thirst You tend to drink water Moe often than not, I really love this period because of the cold at night and gentle harmattan breeze which graces the environment.

sourcerainy season comes with heavy downpour

The rainy season is loved by most and I'm among the hand full who doesn't love it too. There are lots of floods during the rainy season, it is a great time for agriculture but out country is really a developing one, with little infrastructure set in place, there are lots of disadvantages of the rains.

Moreso, during the rainy season the rivers and seas overflow their banks flooding the cities in the riverine areas, rendering families homeless and destroying agricultural produces due to the lack of proper amenities to wade off the floor! This is painful as the economy is deteriorated during the period.

Futhermore, erosion takes its toll as houses gets eroded due to the soil type and circumstances surrounding the buildings of homes. There are lots of major issues and it had been a major problem to the society. All these activities put together makes me detest the rainy season as it is a time of pain due to bad governance and poor infrastructure.

• Describe a traditional or special activity that people in your country do during a particular season.

sourcefishing festivals are always pleasant

During the rainy season there is any if water and the fishermen tend to perform a fishing festival where the greatest of them all participate duly. Various autonomous communities converge in the massive river which is the biggest in the zone.

However, hey begin to fish for the biggest catch. The fish caught are weighed and arranged according to their sizes and recoded according o their weights too. The fisherman with the greatest trophy of the largest fish goes home with $300 as cash price. This event happens only twice in a year during the rainy season.

• Are there any special foods or drinks that people in your country enjoy most during certain seasons? If so what is it and why?

During the rainy season, the mangoes are in abundance, the oranges too and some other seasonal fruits too. The cost of sea food I greatly reduced and there is bliss in the land. Everyone tends to delve into farming and the harvest is usually bountiful. During this season in the year, people get to buy sea food such as periwinkle, oyster, crayfish generally at affordable price. It is the most stable feeding time of the nation.
