Machu Picchu is a manufactured but charming city in Peru. Although the Spanish pronunciation of the town is Machu Picchu, many pronounce it as Machu Picchu, meaning "old peak". It is an ancient city. Machu Picchu is a city that even predates the discovery of America by Columbus. The town is about 2,400 meters or 7,875 feet above sea level. It is located on a mountain peak above a valley called Urubamba in Peru.
Coincidentally, the city was depopulated when the Spanish invaded the Inca civilization in the 16th century. The Spaniards were never aware of the city's existence. Another four hundred years it was passed after the invasion of the Spaniards. This ruined city was hidden from the outside world for four hundred years. Finally, in 1911, American archaeologist Hiram Bingham drew everyone's attention to it. The remarkable forts here were known only to some farmers living around the area.
Today, Machu Picchu is the most famous city of the Inca civilization. In 1981, this area was declared a protected historical area of Peru. In 1983, UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site.
In the year 1450 Then, the golden age of the Inca civilization was going on. What built the city of Machu Picchu at such a time? But sadly, within 100 years, the town was virtually abandoned. It is believed that almost all the people of this city died of smallpox.
Machu Picchu bears many ancient architectural signatures. The walls of the structures here are made of stone. Interestingly, They used no cement or lime-slurry mixture to join the stones. Their construction technique is called ashlar. They were exceptionally skilled in this technique. In this method, Who cut the stone blocks very precisely. Then Who put them in cages? As a result, there was no need for bonding cement. The Incas were very skilled in this method of theirs. The stones they built were so finely crafted that it was virtually impossible to insert even a thin knife through the gap between the two stones.
Roughly 140 structures can see in the city—some of its temples and some residential buildings. There are over 100 stairs, of which only one is granite. There are many springs carved out of the mountain. There was also a Sun Temple for the Inca god Surya.
The Incas built a road to Machu Picchu as part of the road system. Today, thousands of people trek to Machu Picchu on this route. By 2000, nearly four million tourists had visited Machu Picchu. It is currently one of the seventh wonders of the world. Many people now doubt this city's existence due to the influx of additional tourists.
