Discrimination is one of the act that make people to see others as useless or as less privilege people. Discrimination is judging and treating someone unfairly because of their tribe, religion, country, skin color, language, height, age and so on. Have you been discriminated before?
It's happened several times, been known what discrimination means, the one I witness was when I went to restaurant to buy some food. I went there on time because it's always busy and on queue and I didn't want to join a long line just because of food. But unfortunately for me, even after getting there early, I still have to join a line which I did though it wasn't much.
After waiting for about 20 minutes for my turn, I went straight to the seller who supposed to attend to me. She collected the plate and dropped it somewhere while attending to someone else. I told her that I waited patiently till my turn and why she skipped me while attending to someone else. she told me it because the person is older than me. She attended to 3 people who came after me before attending to me.
I was so upset, she judges and treated me base on my age. Assuming I was big enough or of age, she wouldn't have done it. I have also seen different occasions of discrimination here in Lagos state, Nigeria. A Yoruba people against igbo people, they wouldn't buy anything from anybody outside their tribe. When it comes to business, Igbo people will like to do business with their tribe, discriminating people from other tribe.
As a person, I know that I can help in preventing discrimination or help those who are victims of discrimination. Here are some o the things I can do to contribute in preventing discrimination within and outside my space:
Paying attention and listening attentively on what people have to say. As such I will need to hear and acknowledge others' experiences and concerns instead of judging them.
Another thing I can do to prevent discrimination is through education. Like they say, Education is the key, and it applies in learning. So in other to stop or prevent discrimination, it's necessary I learn about people cultures, identities, and their experiences.
Thinking out of the box: If it's me, how would I feel. Of course discrimination doesn't make someone happy instead it's make someone look less to himself because of his culture or background. I will try to understand people's perspective and feel empathy for them, putting myself in their case.
When the woman discriminated me at the restaurant, nobody said anything which is very wrong. But I learned today to speak up when ever I come across any discriminatory behavior. They shouldn't be discriminating people base on age and what the person want to buy.
By taking the few steps I mentioned I can be able to prevent discrimination and create a more inclusive and equitable environment within me.
The statement "people for people" is to reminds us that we're all human beings, and we all deserving of kindness, compassion, and respect. When we have this mindset in mind we will be able to to build a stronger, supportive communities where everyone where everyone can thrive together.
The essential value of people for people is empathy, support, inclusion, community, and mutual aid. This statement encourages caring for each other, looking out for well-being, celebrating diversity, working together towards common goals, and creating a safety net of support and understanding. It emphasizes understanding feelings, offering help, recognizing individual worth, building connections, and acknowledging the need for support."
To the discriminators, this act of discrimination doesn't look good at all my dear, instead of discrimination let all of us join hand together to reflect on our self, learn people's perspective and culture, imagine ourselves in their shoes, active listening, with sincere apology, making amendment, seeking guidance, cultivate self-awareness and have a growth mindset in other to end this act. If we can do this we will be able to create a more equitable society where we can work towards treating everyone with dignity and respect.
In conclusion, let everyone strive to create a world where discrimination is eradicated. Every single person is valued and respected for who they are. Together we can do this and we can make a difference by taking these steps towards understanding, acceptance, and equality for all. We all deserve better.

Truly we deserve a better place. Its sad discrimination even amongst our self and to make matters worse even people who are enlightened via education still commit this error.
