The practice of drinking tea first started in China. In China, tea drinking is practiced as medicine. Around 2737 BC, the Chinese emperor Shen Nang, surrounded by his servants, went on a pleasure trip to the forest. Servants are busy preparing food for the emperor. Suddenly, an unknown leaf fell into the boiling water. When the drink was served to the emperor, the emperor was overjoyed to taste it. I immediately ordered to investigate that. What is this page? Where can it be found, and how can it be used? A new drink was born. Within a short period, the medicinal properties of tea were recognized, which were later described by Chinese scholars as the touchstone of immortality. Commercial production of tea began in China in 1650 AD. And its cultivation in India started in 1818 AD. In 1855, the British found the first tea plant in Sylhet. Then in 1857, commercial cultivation of tea began in Malnichara of Sylhet.

Two types of tea trees are found worldwide: the Chinese tea tree and the Assam tea tree. Chinese tea plants are small, and Assamese tea plants are very large, with occasional pruning. Chinese tea leaves are famous for their taste and aroma, but Assam tea leaves are renowned for their fragrance. Its quality depends on the perfect combination of these tea leaves. When picking leaves from a tea plant, you must choose two leaves and one bud together. Otherwise, the flavor of the tea will be spoiled. For this characteristic, Sylhet, the land of tea, is called the 'land of two leaves and one bud.'

Apart from Sylhet in Bangladesh, tea is cultivated commercially in the Ange district of the country. Bepak tea is produced in the Khagrachari, Rangamati, and Bandban districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts after Sylhet.
