Jamdani sarees are made by dyeing the yarn and spinning the spinning wheel!!! This Jamdani saree has survived for many years with the blood, labor and sweat of the weavers. Jamdani weaving is done by weaving a third thread. Jamdani is made in various places but Dhaka is considered as the original birthplace. The unique method of Jamdani weaving has been recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. There are various theories about the naming of Jamdani. According to one opinion the word Jamdani is derived from the Persian language. Persian jama means cloth and dani means booti. In that sense jamdani means bootidar cloth. For this reason, it is believed that the Muslims introduced and spread Jamdani in the Indian subcontinent. We all know about the thread of a saree and we all know about the thread of Jamdani saree, 80 count, 60 count, 40 count, 120 count and many more and color.

Jamdani has different names according to the design like
Tercha, Jalpar, Panna Hajar, Corolla, Dublajal, Saburga, Bolihar, Shapla Phul, Angurlata, Mayurpachpar, Baghanli, Kalmilata, Chandrapar, Jhumka, Butidar, Jhalar, Mayurpakha, Puilta, Kalkapar, Kachupata, Prajapati, Juibuti, Hansbalaka, Shabnam, Jhumka, Jabaful etc.
It was four hundred years ago. If you start walking along the road of Nayapara village of Rupganj, Narayanganj, you can see small and big jamdani factories in almost every house. Centuries old Jamdani saree artisans have been creating sarees with eye-catching designs for ages. And behind weaving a sari, these weavers have many stories of life. Most of the time the men of the house do the work and the women of the house help in various ways. Children also help in this work.

The equipment made the bamboo is covered in various colours of thread. First the thread is separated,colored and then wrapped in a huge spools, And is weaved before the desiging begins. But recently, weavers have been purchasing a lot of cotton and polyester by the kilogram. The thread is initially plain white,unless they can find a common colour that they need at the shop. If then can't, they can colour the thread in huge cement dishes by the riverside.

How many days it takes to finish a jamdani saree depends on the intricacies of the design. Some take only a week while some can take between 6 month’s and a whole year.
