Contemplating the meaning of life is an ancient tendency of human civilization. Various philosophical doctrines and religious views have been developed in search of answers. Here I am going to discuss with you today some of the main viewpoints.

1.NIHILISM

  • In this doctrine, the philosopher Friedrich believes that life does not have a specific meaning. In this doctrine, the world and life were formed for no particular purpose. Rather, people themselves find the meaning of life. This view is quite harsh and saddening to many. But according to him it is our freedom.

2. EXISTENTIALISM

  • According to existentialist philosopher Albay Camus, life means living and constantly proving one's existence. According to this philosophy life takes on a predetermined meaning rather we all determine the meaning of life through our own actions. Making life meaningful is entirely up to us.

3.HEDONISM

  • According to hedonism, the first purpose of life is to keep oneself happy, to achieve happiness. This doctrine was popularized by the ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus. However, this doctrine generally emphasizes balanced and long-term happiness and not just sensual gratification.

CHRISTIANITY

  • Different religious doctrines talk about different purposes of life. And it emphasizes the faith of the whole man. And according to Christianity, doing God's will and attaining heaven after death, similarly according to Islam, living life as directed by the Creator. And thus it is said to be necessary to believe in every religion.

5.BUDDHISM

  • According to Buddhism, life is a cycle of suffering. And the only way out of this misery is Nirvana. Nirvana means liberation from all desires and cravings. Which is the root of all sorrow.

Our role in the search for meaning in life

These philosophies suggest that the meaning of life depends entirely on oneself and is only relative. We have to rely on our life experiences, actions and beliefs to find the real meaning of life. Each person finds the meaning of life in his own way.

What is your view about the meaning of life, do you agree with these philosophical doctrines or do you have your own doctrine, if you want you can share it with us. Hope you find the post thought provoking and interactive. You can share your valuable opinion below.
