Nigeria the giant of Africa is my country, growing up I saw great people in my country hold Nigerian festival in a very high esteem. When I inquired to know what this is all about I discovered it was a day Nigeria was given independence. Oooh wow, No wonder Nigerians don't joke with 1st October.
What is the national festival of your country? How did it start

October 1st is known and celebrated as a National festival in my country, this is because Nigeria gained her independence on this day far back in 1960. The Nigerian government declares this day as work free day where citizens of my country can merry and rest for the remembrance of our freedom.
How is this festival celebrated? Are there any special rules for celebrating it?
This day is always a beautiful and colorful day to behold, the military are on guard with their special squad parades on different stadiums and headquarters, Schools are not left out in this celebration as they appear in their uniforms to salute the Governor, the local government chairman as the case may be.
The rules on this day is work free day. And the government makes sure security personnel are on guard to secure her citizens on this day, there are some entitlement on this day where participants of different groups are given cash to share. I can remember when my school took the overall 1st position in the parade during this national festival celebration in the stadium we were given cash to share. Yeah I benefited because I was part of those who matched.
Are there any special outfits or foods for celebrating your national festival?
Yes, the outfits for the day is green and white, Nigerians are very creative people, on this day you will see different types of outfits using green and white color. There's no generally accepted food on this day rather every ethnic group prepare accordingly and to their taste.
The Northerns prepare mostly their Rams and cows using them to make what we call SUYA, people that like it will join them and eat in celebration.
The Easterners prepares their soups, made of melon, palm fruits, and Abacha .
The westerns prepares their Amala and Ewudu with pepper sauce.
The southerns also prepare their own delicacy to celebrate this day.
It's a day full of merriment, and fun
Tell us about your favorite memory from celebrating your national festival.
I always look forward for this festival, do you know why? I'm very good at match past. I'm the flag bearer in my school special parade, My uniform is well washed and ironed on this day, my parents makes sure they gets new stockings and shoes for me .
Then another memorable thing about this day is the fact that I will be traveling to the stadium which is not a normal day thing, as early as 7am my friends and I are already in the school compound waiting for others and the bus that will carry us. Then when we are set to leave we will sing from the school to the place some students will hang on the window of the bus singing victory songs. It's was a day I look forward of celebrating.
This is my participation in this week's engagement challenge. Thanks for staying tuned.

Freedom is one of the things we hope for most of our lives. Our forefathers achieved this much awaited freedom from the occupying forces through their many sacrifices and sacrifices. I have already learned a lot about Awanad Nigeria Independence Day through this pageant, which is celebrated on October 1st every year. The day is celebrated through various military and civil activities. .
In your school life you used to carry the flag in the Independence Day parade which is a great honor. Hope you remember your golden time on Independence Day.

A great reason, friend, that Nigeria has to celebrate is not least to celebrate in many ways on October 1, where they achieved their independence, a day off from work, a reason to celebrate with parades, marches.
The children wearing their uniform to greet the governor and above all there is a lot of security on that day of celebration.
Saludos 👍🇻🇪

Hello @okere-blessing! It is great to hear your enthusiasm and experiences with Nigeria's National Day celebrations on October 1, which marks the country's independence in 1960. The pride and joy that Nigerians feel on this day is clearly reflected in your description of the vibrant parades, the colorful green and white costumes and the delicious and diverse foods from various regions. Your personal memories of participating in the school parade as a flag bearer are especially poignant. It is wonderful how this day not only brings the community together but also instills a sense of pride and enthusiasm in the youth. The best luck!

Independence Day is a day of honor and joy for every country. I want to know which country Nigeria was colonized before independence (1960)? People of your country celebrate this day with great joy and make clothes matching the colors of the flag. Good luck to your country and to you dear friend.
