Assalamu Alaikum everyone. Hope you are all well. I am also fine. Since I live in Lalbagh area, I will tell you something about Lalbagh Fort. It take 10 minute walk from my house. I often go here for morning walk. So I will try to tell you something about Lalbagh Fort in this post.
Lalbagh Fort is an integral part of Dhaka's history. It is located in Lalbagh Thana on the bank of the Buriganga River in the south of the capital Dhaka. The ancient name of Lalbagh Fort was 'Qilla Aurangabad'.
To visit the Lalbagh Fort, first buy the ticket from the ticket counter. It is very nice to see many visitors from far and wide every day to know the history and heritage of the country. It is known that Yuvaraj Azam Shah, the third son of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, came to Dhaka in 1678 as Subedar of Bengal and he undertook the construction of a palace fort named Qilla Aurangabad. But he could not finish the construction of this fort. About a year after the construction of this fort started, he had to go to Delhi on the call of his father to suppress the Maratha rebellion there. In 1680, the Nawab Shaista Khan restarted the construction of Lalbagh Fort, almost a year after the work had stopped. He changed its name to Lalbagh Fort.
However, Subedar Shaista Khan's beloved daughter Paribibi died before the fort was completed. He was buried there. And that's why he also couldn't finish the work. Lalbagh Fort is one of the most visited places in the country. Its area is 19 acres. The most commonly used image of Lalbagh Fort is Paribibi's tomb. It is square in shape. There are three doors of huge size. A door within it is open to all. Paribibi's tomb is called Paribibi's Majar. It has 9 rooms inside. There is also a dome, formerly of gold, now covered with copper. Besides, there is a huge pond inside the fort. Which is now waterless. There are three establishments-1. Durbar Hall and Hammam Khana in the center 2. Paribibi's tomb 3. Shahi Mosque in the North West 4.
Azam Shah built a three-domed mosque here before leaving for Delhi. Prayers are offered in congregation in the mosque. Hard stones, marble stones and various colored tiles have been used in Lalbagh Fort.
There is a museum open to the public which was formerly the residence of Nawab Shaista Kha.
There are many things to see in the museum. Mughal era manuscripts, pottery, carpets, manuscripts and royal decrees along with hand-painted pictures from different periods of the Mughal era will fascinate you. Shaista Khan's various useful items are also carefully there. Apart from that, there are various weapons, clothes, common currency of that time in the museum. You must come to there to see the place.
