Drinks get the prominent place in our daily life. A warm cup of tea or coffee, we gain in the morning, provide us necessary energy that we need to start our day. Not only that, a refreshing glass of fruit juice provide us comfort on a hot day. My favourite drink is tea, normally I use three or four cups per day. Therefore, I believe this contest is very worth one, so I decided to join the “My Favorite Drink” contest organized by @shiftitamanna. Let me share my thoughts on the contest theme.

Is it common for people to drink tea and coffee in your country? |
Yes, my country is South Asian, therefore, it is common for people to drink both coffee and tea. You are aware that Ceylon tea is an important part of our culture. Therefore, the majority of people in my country enjoy tea in the morning. In addition, many people drink tea after breakfast and in the evening. It is part of the daily routine for the majority of families in my country. People in my country often add milk and sugar to their morning and evening cup of tea. Some people use coffee instead of tea. However, tea is the more popular drink in Sri Lanka than coffee.
Did you prefer different drinks as a child? |
Yes, in our childhood we preferred different drinks than tea. Those days our favorite drinks were fruit juices. I recall my eldest sister prepared several types of fruit juice for all of us. I enjoyed the taste of mango and lime juice. We went out with our parents, and when they asked what we wanted, we requested fruit juice. They were refreshing, sweet, and perfect for hot days. Coconut water was another drink I loved, particularly when visiting my grandparents. It felt cool and refreshing. As a child, I rarely drank tea or coffee. It was a "grown-up" drink in our house, and I wasn't very interested in it.
Do you think it is important to drink lots of water? |

Yes, I think it is very important to drink lots of water. Water is essential for our bodies to stay healthy and strong. To function effectively, every part of our body needs water. Drinking enough water helps us stay cool, keeps our skin fresh, and gives us energy for carrying out our everyday activities. Not only that it helps digestion, but it also helps to maintain the health of organs such as the kidneys and heart. We become weary, dizzy, or have headaches when we do not drink enough water. Drinking more water is especially important during hot days to keep our bodies hydrated.
What is a traditional drink in your country for celebrating? |
Our traditional drink for special occasions is milk rice (Kiribath) with sweetened black tea. Milk rice is not a drink, yet mixing it with tea is an important part of our celebrations. Kahata tea is usually served without milk but sweetened with sugar, giving it a strong, refreshing flavor. On special occasions, such as Sinhala Tamil New Year, birthday parties, and weddings people gather to enjoy Kiribath (Milk Rice) with a hot cup of tea.
During cultural or religious celebrations, herbal drinks such as ranawara or beli mal (herbal infusions) are occasionally served, as they are thought to have health advantages. In addition, king coconut water is another traditional drink encountered during our celebrations. King coconut water is a popular refreshing drink, especially in Sri Lanka's hot climate.
