In 1842, the Kotchandpur sugar factory was bought by Mr. Dhoba Company. Newhouse (Mr. New House) transferred ownership and sugar production continued. Newhouse and his wife Bridget Newhouse built a large building in Kotchandpur and settled permanently. His only daughter, Margaret Sarah McLeod, married Sir John Sinoleb McLeod.
