Okrążmy świat raz jeszcze - Tadeusz Perkitny

It is September 1926. Two young engineers - Tadeusz Perkitny and Leon Mroczkiewicz - don't think about settling down, marriage, and boring, well-paid work. They come up with a rather eccentric idea. In pursuit of an adventure, they leave their hometown Poznań and set out to conquer a world full of unbelievable and hilarious events. With a hundred zlotys in their pockets, a map torn from an atlas, a supply of plum jam and pickled cucumbers, they go deep into new continents, catching every job and the possibility of transport. During their trip, nothing can be serious and normal.
Both the content and great photos are very enjoyable in this book. A narrative is preposterous, elegant, and fast-paced, sometimes funny, in other moments serious and respectful to the people met on their way and stories told by them. The author has a huge distance to himself, which is wonderfully comforting for us, as the readers. From the very first pages, the main characters - Mr. Perkitny and Mr. Mroczkiewicz - become the reader's friends and guides, with whom one would like to go to the very end of the world, for an adventure!
In times without computers, cells, without GPS, they travel through the jungle, forest, steppe, pampas and meet Poles everywhere. This book is a wonderful record of the extraordinary fate of nineteenth and twentieth-century emigrants. Great description of the community in exile - those who made it and those who failed. Everything against the backdrop of extraordinary nature and landscapes.
The author got a Ph.D. and became a professor in one of the Universities in Poland where he was teaching until he died in 1986.
I do love that book a lot. It was one of the things which motivated me to leave my country and start the adventure of living few years on the road. The book is full of life wisdom, respect for other cultures, nature, and everything that was around the main characters. I would recommend it to absolutely everyone, regardless of the worldview or life situation. After all, the joy of life can be enjoyed by everyone. One of the best books I have ever read in my life. It's a pity it never was translated into other languages, but hey - maybe that will be done in the future.

I get you, sometimes I'm very busy too and I definitely read less than when I was younger, although I am trying to find some time for the book. The bigger problem is that I don't have much access to the books in Polish now - I'm reading in English or Spanish, but it takes me more time and is not relaxing in the same way. I could read ebooks, but I don't enjoy it. It's not the same as good, old-fashioned paper :)
Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it a lot. Have a wonderful day!
