Achievement 2 @abudooji Task : Basic Security on Steem

Hi there, I am writing today to inform you of what I've learned about BASIC SECURITY ON STEEM.
Am delighted to have an opportunity to express myself and show understanding of my Steemit wallet and the basic security governing it.
Below are explanations of the various keys of steemit and how they are used.

Have you retrieve all your keys on Steemit?
Yes, I have and I'll entreat all newbies on Steemit like myself to do the same, for they're the gateway to your Steemit account. It's very important you keep your retrieved Steemit keys sacred, I suggest you use various measures to keep your keys safe.
I recommend you save them offline either printing it out a hard copy and keeping it safe or saving it as a zip file with a password on a Pendrive/ external hard drive. Also saving them online on a cloud won't be a bad idea.

Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?
Well as the saying goes "use the right tool for the right work", I'll say use the right key for its built purpose or function.

Posting key - Let's start with posting key, to my understanding, this key is the most basic of all the steemit keys. The Posting key is used for logging into one's Steemit account, and can also be used to perform social functions like; posting, commenting, editing, resteeming, and following or muting other accounts.

Active key - This key is more advance than the posting key, the active key is used for more delicate tasks like; transferring of funds, powering up/down transactions, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and avatar, placing a market order and converting Steem Dollars. This key can be described as the key to your vault or safe because it's used for things pertaining to your Steemit wallet.

Owner key - The owner key serves an extra important purpose and is powerful because this key is what you would use to reset all other keys if the need ever arises. I personally refer to it as the key to my keys box, which in actual sense is the key to the other keys. Also, because of the importance of this key, I'll advise you to save it offline in case an unwanted emergency ever occurs.

Memo key - Memo key as the name suggests is used to encrypt and decrypt memo when the matter of transferring funds arises. So one may ask, what is a memo?, a memo is basically a written proposal or a reminder. Haven't said this, one can say that, the memo key is used to lock and open the memo. Also, to encrypt a memo, one can use the pound/# sign before it.

How do you plan to keep your master password?
Looking at the above-mentioned keys one might say, the owner key is the father of all the keys. This won't be a bad assumption, but considering the master password, we'll all agree that this key is like the blacksmith that designs and makes the keys. And we all know credit can't be given to a product(the keys) forgetting the manufacturer(master password). This key to me has the blueprints of the other keys including the owner key, because, it's with this key one can generate all the keys.
Now you know the importance of this password, the question is How do you plan to keep your master password?
Personally, I secured it by saving it offline, one printed out as a hard copy and kept it safe and I also saved it as a zip file with a password on a Pendrive and external hard drive and separate from all other keys for if the need arise this key can give me all the keys.

Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
As a newbie, one might say that there is more time to learn stuff on Steemit, true but there are certain fundamental things/skills one must learn before thinking of growth in the Steemit community. One of the things/skills one needs to know is how to transfer Steem token to other users on Steemit. Below is a guide as to how to go about it.

• Click on your avatar icon at the top-right corner, a drop-down menu will pop up.

• Go ahead and select wallet from the drop-down menu by clicking on it.

• Now click on the first highlighted STEEM with the drop-down button (arrow pointing downward).

• Select transfer by clicking on it from the drop-down menu.

• A dialogue box will then appear, go ahead and fill in the username of the user you're transferring the Steem token to, not forgetting the amount to be transferred.

• After clicking on next there will be a confirmation dialogue box with the details you fed in the previous dialogue box. check your information to confirm it is right before hitting on "ok"
  And you're done, simple right?

Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
I talked about learning certain fundamental things/skills to enable one's steady growth on Steemit, well apart from being able to transfer Steem token, one should be able to also power up your STEEM.
Below is a guide as to how to go about it.

• Let's get going, once again click on your avatar icon. (where is it located, top-right corner right? that's correct.)

• Now click on the wallet to select it

• Then click on the first highlighted STEEM with the drop-down button (arrow pointing downward).

• Select power-up by clicking on it from the drop-down menu.

• A pop-up dialogue box will appear, go ahead and fill in the amount you want to power up with and click on power-up.

• There will be another pop-up dialogue box, but this time it is for confirmation. Make sure you check the amount is correct before confirming, by hitting on ok.

And that is it guys you're now powered up!.
