WHAT IS MARKDOWN?
Markdown is a markup language that formats plain text and converts it to HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language)
Markdown came into fold in 2004 and was developed by a notable computer programmer Aaron Swartz and technology blogger John Gruber
On this post below I will use some of the markdown to summarize world war 2.
Here are some of the Markdowns I will use on this post

THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Source
During the summer, Germany attacked Britain by air. But due to the fact that Britain had a very strong air force (Royal Air Force), they repelled the German air force (Luftwaffe) and Germany recorded it's first defeat.
THE BATTLE OF USSR
Source
Germany was never relenting and being over ambitious started invading the Soviet Union in 1941 (Soviet Union: Officially known as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was a socialist state that included European and Asian countries - Eurasia; during its existence from 1922 to 1991) At first the Germans progressed and gained advantage into Russian heartland, but due to the fact that USSR was a very vast coalition, the German army found it very difficult to defeat them. The Russian army was not equal in strength when compared to the Germans but because of the nation’s strength, determination and resilience, combined with its brutal winter weathers, it was just too much for the German army to overcome. Germany later retreated in 1943, after the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk. In 1944 the German army were completely out of Soviet territory. And by 1945, the Russians pursued them across eastern Europe and into Germany itself.
THE INVASION THROUGH NORMANDY
Source
In June 1944, American and British forces together launched an attack popularly known as the D-Day Invasion, by landing in German-occupied France through the coast of Normandy. Not too long the German army was also forced into retreat from that side as well. Hence, by early 1945, Allied forces gradually closed in on Germany from both east and west. The Soviets were the first to reach the German capital of Berlin, and in May 1945 Germany surrendered shortly after Adolf Hitler committed suicide.
PEARL HARBOR
Source
In December 7, 1941, another war started in the Pacific, when Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S Navy base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Before then, Japan had already conquered China and had seized the Chinese territory of Manchuria. After the attack at Pearl Harbor, Japan started a massive crusade to expand it's territory throughout the Southeast Asia–Pacific region.
THE U.S. RETALIATION AND BATTLE OF MIDWAY
~5. Blockquotes~
On hearing this, the then president of America President Franklin D.Roosevelt said
"No man can tame a tiger into a kitten by stroking it. There can be no appeasement with ruthlessness. There can be no reasoning with an incendiary bomb."
Although the United States declared a war on Japan shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbour, many months passed before U.S. forces re-trooped and ready for an attack .
Towards spring of 1942, the United States and Japan engaged in a series of naval battles, that led to the Battle Of Midway in June, 1942, in which Japan suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of the U.S.
THE SOLOMON ISLANDS AND GUADALCANAL
Source
The following year, the U.S and Japan struggled endlessly for the Solomon Islands, which was located near an important shipping routes for the Allies. By August 1942 and February 1943, Allied forces invaded the island of Guadalcanal and this forced the Japanese forces out of the Solomons and then the Allies further pursued the Japanese from various Pacific islands that they had earlier seized. Simultaneously, the British and Indian forces were fighting Japanese troops in Burma.
