Achievement 2 @Chikezie4L Task : Basic Security on Steem

in hive-172186 •  3 years ago

Good day Steemians, having done my achievement 1, I want to proceed to my achievement 2 which is the BASIC SECURITY ON STEEMIT.

Just as security is important to protect accounts from being stolen, Steemit has set up various keys and a master password designated to perform different functions.
These keys needs to be kept safe both online and offline, and not to be shared with any third-party so as not to risk your account getting stolen. There are no recovery passwords on Steemit, once your master password or your owner key has been compromised, you can kiss your account goodbye.

Now to answer the questions...

QUESTION 1:
Have you retrieved all your keys on steemit?

ANSWER:
Yes, I have retrieved all my keys and kept them safe, away from any third-party.

QUESTION 2:
Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?

ANSWER:

POSTING KEY -
This key can only be used to perform social activities like posting, commenting, upvoting and downvoting. While these activities are common, they do not require a high level of security, because they're restricted to only social activities and cannot perform transaction of tokens.

ACTIVE KEY -
The active key is rather sensitive and it's compromise may lead to sad events that's why it needs to be used only when necessary. It performs tasks such as transferring funds, power up/down transactions, converting Steem Dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and avatar, and placing a market order.

OWNER KEY -
The owner key is meant to be stored offline because it is the most powerful key which can change any key of an account including itself. This key should also be used when necessary. It is used to recover an account that has been compromised.

MEMO KEY -
This key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring funds.

MASTER PASSWORD -
The Master Password is used to generate all the other keys, including the Owner Key. This password is given upon signing up on Steemit and it is also used to recover all other keys if they're lost. This key is very important because it's compromise would lead to the loss of a Steemit account which can never be recovered.

QUESTION 3:
How do you plan to keep your master password?

ANSWER:
I have saved both hard and soft copies of the password, using Google drive and a printed copy, which of course anyone can't have access to.

QUESTION 4:
Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user's account?

ANSWER:

Yes, I know how to transfer Steem tokens to another steem user's account. The process isn't too difficult but I'll attach digital illustrations for a clearer view of how it looks like, this way, anyone can perform the transfer.

STEPS TO FOLLOW IN ORDER TO TRANSFER STEEM TOKEN TO ANOTHER STEEM USER'S ACCOUNT:

  1. Go to your profile and click on "WALLET"
  2. Sign in to your wallet
  3. Click on "STEEM BALANCE" then a drop box opens, displaying other options.
  4. Click on "TRANSFER" then a new page opens up requiring you to fill it up with the correct details.
  5. After inputting the correct details, Click on "NEXT"
  6. Confirm the transfer by clicking "OK"
