Hi steemians,it’s me again @chinadennys, it’s been like months here( my phone crashed) but I’m back now. I’m here to present my second task “achievement 2”,although it took me some hours to understand what my task here actually is, I made it to this end😄😄
I also want to thank all who supported and voted me in my first task on steemit, thank you so much.
BASIC SECURITY ON STEEMIT
Steemit has a security system that helps protect the accounts of steemians and this system provides passwords and security keys to keep the account safe, help steemians post,vote,resteem,transfer funds, update profile,etc.. This keys are delicate and should be handled as very important by every steemian as ur account becomes unrecoverable if you lose ur key especially the owners key.
HOW TO SECURE YOUR PASSWORD
To secure your password; have an offline copy, store it in a flash drive or save it to your google account online but make sure it’s secured and only within your reach as your account or funds can be stolen if a 3rd party gets access to it. You can also hurriedly change your password using your owners key if you notice your account gets compromised.
Having explained the basic security system in steemit, I’ll go ahead to answer the questions I was asked to answer in this task.
RETRIEVING YOUR KEYS ON STEEMIT
After registration on steemit you will be sent a pass to your mail with which you can unlock your keys. This is like the very first thing you do as you will need your keys to operate your steemit account .
You sign in with your private posting key as gotten from your keys.
KNOWING EACH KEY,THEIR FUNCTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS.
There are different keys given to every steemian for their steemit account and understanding helps you use them;
- Posting keys:
There are two posting keys; the private posting key and the posting public key. The private posting key is the key you sign into your account with, it allows you post,comment,edit,vote,resteem,and follow or mute other accounts.
IT’S RESTRICTIONS: this key shouldn’t be used daily, you can save your account in ur device so you don’t have to use it every time you need to login, to avoid it being compromised.
Private active key:
This key is for tasks such as;transferring funds,power up and down, converting steem dollar, voting for witness,updating profiles and placing a market order.Private Owners key:
This key is the most powerful key as it can change any key of the account, and recover a compromised account.
Every steemian should keep this key saved offline Incase his/her account gets compromised.Private Memo key :
The memo key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring fundsHow do you plan to keep your password/keys;
You must know that your account remains unrecoverable if you lose your password especially your owners key so you “must” keep it safe , have an offline copy somewhere in a safe in a printed paper, or an external flash drive. You account has real value so you must treat it as such.
TRANSFERRING STEEM TOKENS TO ANOTHER STEEM USERS ACCOUNT
You will have to visit your wallet, sign in by clicking on the steemit logo at the top left side of the wallet page n putting the details required which is ur username and private active key. After this significant areas of the wallet will be highlighted green so you can click on them to either transfer funds or power up ur steem.
THE STEEMIT WALLET
In the steemit wallet there are three kinds of steem:
Steem; this is liquid steem meaning it can be transferred or traded with in the internal market or powered up to steem power.
Steem power; steem power is like an investment locked up for you in the steemit Inc. you can convert it back to steem if you wish.
Steem Backed Dollar (SBD) ; this steem can be traded for steem in the internal market or transferred to another user.
CONCLUSION:
“Exhales” I made it to the end, thanks to my mentors @cryptokannon, @steemalive, @ceendy20 and @giftye for guidance
