Hello Everyone,

It’s a beautiful day here in Sri Lanka. What’s going on with you guys? Stay happy and strong always.

So, I’m here to complete my achievement 3 post. It’s been a while since my last achievement post. But here I’m with my ideas about plagiarism and citation.

First thanks to @cryptokannon for the achievement 3 post that helped me to have a sound idea on the subject.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Do you have heard this word? Most of you should have, I guess. But don’t worry. I’ll explain it.

It’s stealing another person’s ideas, works, or creations and using them as yours without giving any credit to the owner. It may be an image, article, piece of art, song, or anything. You may feel it’s no big deal. But it is. It’s totally fraud and a punishable offense. On the other hand, the artist or owner could be strongly violated because sometimes that maybe his life work.

How is this important on Steemit?

Steemit is an open platform which is an opportunity to share our feelings around the world. We are free to express any ideas here, of course under some guidelines. So, what is the reason if we use other’s ideas? We should promote creativity and get them from our hearts. This is done in order to make this platform professional.

What can we do to avoid plagiarism?

~ Use your own ideas and words as much as possible

~ Quote and paraphrase – We can use the quotation marks if we copy information, or we can use our own words to explain those. But it’s always better to mention the source also.

~ Citation – Usually we need some details or images from other sources to make our articles, contents more informative and interesting. So, it’s okay to use them. But we should give them credit. For that proper citation need to be done. It means we can add the link directly to that source. If you are using different sources add them separately, but make sure, to be honest, and correct. It’s more professional and no one is getting hurt.

The Steem Community Etiquette

Here’s a new word. To get an understanding of this, post, Source by @thecryptofiend helped a lot.

According to the Oxford dictionary, it means,

"The customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group." Source

So, Here in Steemit also there are some guidelines just to make sure we have a better experience without mistakes. There are 29 points to be followed. The above-mentioned post will give you aa better understanding of them.

So, as summary plagiarism is strictly prohibited in the steemit. It's good to express your innovative and creative ideas. And ethical behavior is highly accepted here, so you can make your own path to success.

Thank you all for guiding and supporting me. 🥰🥰

Best Regards!
