Good day Steemians,
I sm here again with great delight to announce my successful completion and verification of achievement 2 and I'm proceeding to the next achievement. Through the previous achievement I got to know few things about this platform and I wish to learn more with this and the forthcoming achievements.

For the purpose of today's achievement, I will be centered on Content Etiquette.
Content Etiquette is simply the manner in which information or knowledge on a particular topic are shared.

Plagiarism amongst others is a bad act which in my opinion portrays not only dishonesty but stealing and unprofessionalism in whatever work you are doing.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

To plagiarize simply means to take or pass off someone else's work and use it in such a way that is as if that work is yours, without making references or application to it. Steemians are urged to desist from such act of plagiarizing and be original in their works. Therefore we are encouraged to at least give citation or provide the source of whatever work which isn't originally ours.

Some people may be of the notion that plagiarism isn't that much of a bad idea and may see nothing wrong with it as it may save them stress. This is a very wrong notion as here are some reasons why plagiarism is frowned at and also termed wrong and unprofessional.

  1. PLAGIARISM IS THEFT: Plagiarism is intellectual theft, thereby stealing one's opinions and thoughts on a matter and pretending like it's yours is called intellectual theft.
  2. IT COULD DENT YOUR REPUTATION: A person known for plagiarizing would be given a bad name, and most at times your work may be of little value due to the reputation you've set for yourself.
  3. LOW NUMBER OF REVIEWS: A person who indulgeds in plagiarizing other peoples work would definitely would definitely be avoided and his works also would not be reviewed due to the fear of inauthentic.
  4. ATTRACTION OF SEVERE CONSEQUENCES: People who indulged in plagiarism rarely go unpunished. These punishments or consequences also aren't light as they could cause sever problems for offenders.

From the above write up, plagiarism is unacceptable. In order to be on the safe side, I advise we totally abstain from it as it will do more good than harm. Ways we can avoid plagiarism are:

  1. ALWAYS REPHRASE YOUR CONTENTS TO YOUR OWN: whatever work you decide to use as a guide, it is important to understand it, do not copy and paste but instead rephrase it to your own words to avoid intellectual theft and plagiarizing.
  2. THE USE OF QUOTATIONS: Quotations should be used whenever you are taking texts from another person's work, for indication purposes.
  3. ALWAYS CITE YOUR SOURCES AND MAINTAIN RECORDS OF THE SOURCES YOU REFER TO: know what should be cited. Whatever would be used in your work, ie. Pictures. Where unsure, you can use reference

When using a person's work, be it a line you want to make use of from the original work, knowing that you are using someone else's work, you use quotation marks ("") at the beginning and end of the copied sentence. That way you are passing an information to the reader that you have borrowed this line and not plagiarized.
An example "what is worth doing is worth doing well"

As for citation goes down to showing the source to the reader, that is, citing the source of where your material is from. On the Steemit platform from what I've noticed so far this is how we properly site someone's work. For example

As you can see this section of my writing is unique. This is how to site a writing on the platform. If you are wondering how I did it, it is as easy as putting a (>) greater than sign infront of the work to be cited.

When using images that are not originally yours you should also name the sourced by adding the link to the image source in your post. Like this
