Achievement2: Basic security on Steemit by @ebukah

Introduction

Hello steemians, welcome to my second achievement post and here I’ll be talking about the basic security on Steemit, as a new user to Steemit you should be able to have the knowledge of each function of the keys, and being able to differentiate the keys, and understanding how the Steemit wallet works.

What a new user thinks about is how can they keep their account secure, Well i got you covered.

Question 1: Have you retrieve all your keys on Steemit?

Yes i have, that’s kind of the first thing to do after you’ve created your account. When you create your account on Steemit a pdf will be sent to you containing your keys with your name tag on it to make sure it’s yours, which i have saved in my drive and can be retrieved anytime even if I misplace my phone.

Question 2: Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?

Yes i have, Each of the keys has it’s own specific functions and how each of the keys operate, it’s very important to know the functions and restrictions of each key as a new user.
Here are the types and Functions of each key

Posting Key

The posting key allows you to be able to login to your account and this enables social actions like posting, comment, vote, resteem, and follow on Steemit.

Active Key

The active key is used for different proposes and you can say it is most used, and it used to send funds, powering up and down, converting steem Dollars, and setting up your profile details.

Owner Key

The owner key is the most powerful key of them all, This key is used to recover all keys. This is meant to be kept really secure and stored offline for security purposes, thus this is used to recover your account if it was being compromised.

Memo Key

In order to keep an encrypt and decrypt memo the memo key comes in handy, The memo key helps to keep encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring funds.

Question 3: How do you plan to keep your master password?

First of all their is no way to recover your account if you lose your password, that is why they should be kept both offline and online, I keep an offline copy on my flash drive and also keeping it online stored in my drive for safe keeping.

Question 4: Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?

Yes i do, and I am going to show you guys how it’s done with pictures
First of all you’ll click the on your wallet

After clicking on your wallet a downward arrow appears by the steem than after clicking on the arrow a variety of options will pop up then you click on transfer, then this pops up

This page actually shows to whom you want to transfer steem too, with the space for the amount and the memo, Then after you’ve input the person’s name, amount and memo you can then click next.

Steemit is so secured that you can’t send steem without the master password, that’s why is so important to keep it secured, this is were it ends by you putting your username and your password which is kinda the confirmation to authorize the transaction

Question 5: Do you know how to power up your steem?

Yes I know how to power up my steem and here’s how to do that.
First of all click on you wallet then on the arrow beside the steem then this will appear showing different options

After this appears click on power up then a page pop up for you to input the amount you want to power up

Then a page appears to show a confirm to vesting

Then to the final stage, a confirmation to authorize transactions done which your username and password needs to be used to do that.

This gives you control over post payouts and allow you to earn on curation rewards

Conclusion

I have learnt the importance and uses of all my keys and how to keep them safe. It is not recommended to share your password or keys with anybody or any third party site, password or keys should only be used on the Steemit platform
