Hello Steem Friends & Newcomers!
It has been a week past I continued my achievement task, now I'm back in full force!
Yeah, the task before me is to complete "achievement 3 task; "Content Etiquette," involving plagiarism and how to give citation appropriately in Steemit here. Thanks to all the Team members in Newcomer's community, I means in the Team of Steem greets for their immense contribution on sharing what we suppose to include in this task. Little have I learnt under this achievement, and hope to be approved by lovely Steemians here.
My first in depth understanding of the word Plagiarism was my undergraduate course of study at the university. As part of institutional requirements for award of degree students undertake a thesis ( project work). Students choose a researchable topics of their interest and come with a product that will be of immense importance to the community, group, organisation or the society. When a content is generated, it becomes intellectual property(owned by such individual) and therefore, if a someone intends to use it, he/she must seek permission from the owner. Plagiarism is there using someone's original idea, art, image and video without making reference to the primary source.
Plagiarism also became popular in Ghana my home country in 7th January, 2017. During inaugural speech of the president Nana Addo Dankwa Addo, who lifted of us ex president Bill Cliton in 1993 and George W. Bush in 2001 inaugural speeches. (Aljazeera reported it). The presidency's communication director acknowledged the Plagiarism and offered an apology the following day.
For instance, "Child Labour" has been the topic under discussion in most countries, more especially the developing Countries. A situation where most children below the required age of work force; in most cases in Ghana below 18 years are forced to labour and fend themselves. This is against the labour acts or law. To get more insight of child labour, I cited someone's work in support of my point, thereby giving the right source to avoid plagiarism :
"The term “child labour” is often defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development. It refers to work that:
is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful to children; and/or
interferes with their schooling by: depriving them of the opportunity to attend school; obliging them to leave school prematurely; or requiring them to attempt to combine school attendance with excessively long and heavy work.
The worst forms of child labour involves children being enslaved, separated from their families, exposed to serious hazards and illnesses and/or left to fend for themselves on the streets of large cities – often at a very early age. Whether or not particular forms of “work” can be called “child labour” depends on the child’s age, the type and hours of work performed, the conditions under which it is performed and the objectives pursued by individual countries. The answer varies from country to country, as well as among sectors within countries."
I believe we have various ways we can give citation, source or reference to someone's work copied, but this is what I have learnt so far. I hope to learn more to enrich my contents in future. Hoping to contact my Mentors for more information on this task and the ones ahead of me. Much thanks to @cryptokannon, @oppongk , @steemitblog and @steemcurator01 for your great support here. My pleasure working with you!
Thanks very much @gyamanie for sharing your content etiquette task. Nice explanation to what plagiarism means. I love the citation here made on child labour as is one of the topical issue in most countries. Hope to see your next achievement task when you are verified through.
