Steemit is a highly secure platform and to make it more secure it provide different keys with different level of permissions.

There are 3 different kinds of key

1) Posting key:
If you want to perform actions like posting, commenting, editing your post, upvote/downvote, resteem, and follow/unfollow or mute other accounts you have to use posting key.
Posting key is generated by steemit itself and given to you at the time you create your steemit account.

2) Active key:
It is used while performing sensitive actions related to your funds
If you want to perform actions like transferring funds, power up/down transactions, converting Steem Dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and avatar, and placing a market order you have to use Active key.
Active key is also generated by steemit itself and is also given to you along with posting key.

3)Memo key:
It is used to encrypt and decrypt private messages that are sent through blockchain.
It is not so common in use right now but it may be a popular key in future.

4)Owner key:
It is the most powerful key because if you want change any key i.e posting key, active key ,memo key or even owner key itself you can change it by using owner key. It is highly recommended that you save your owner key somewhere offline like in the flash drive or hard drive.
Note: If you lose your owner key it will be impossible for you to recover your steemit account.

About wallet:

There number of functions in wallet but mainly there are three i.e Transfer - Transfer to Savings - Power Up.

1. Transfer: This option is available in both STEEM and STEEM dollars , its used to transfer funds from one steemit account to another.

When you click on transfer a box like this will appear , here you can type the receivers username and the amount you want to transfer to that account, you can also add a message in the memo box.

1. Transfer to savings-This options transfers your funds to savings which has 3 days withdrawal period. It is a good way to protect your funds.

When you click on transfer to funds you will get a box like this, here you can enter the amount that you want to add to savings.

3)Power-up- You can convert your steem to steem power by this option. Steem power give you more control over subsequent payments and allow you to earn on curation rewards.

Note: STEEM POWER is non-transferable and requires 1 month (4 payments) to convert back to Steem.

When you click on power up in the STEEM menu this box will appear on your screen, here you can enter the amount you want to power up in steem power.
