Good day Steemians, my moment in @Steemit has been wonderful moments and I'm enjoying it. My journey in writing achievement posts has been very helpful in understanding the concept of @steemit, I've been able to acquire knowledge to making me understand what is expected of me to know. This is my achievement 6 post where I will be talking about Understanding Curation and Community. Let's get started!
Voting and Curation
There are many social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and others, where people put content online but the users are not rewarded for it. In @Steemit, you are rewarded for every good contents you put online and that's where voting and Curation comes in.
There is a button where users can vote on any posts they like. When a content is published, there is a fixed reward pool for users, they are STEEM, SBD, TRX, and SP through a process called Curation. Curation is the process of voting on a user's post thereby allowing the user to earn reward and the voters are called curators.
It is not only the content writers that got rewarded through Curation, the curator also get rewarded for voting. The reward for each content are shared on the basis of 50/50 in percentage, in such a way that if a content user gets 100sp (steem power) on a post, the content writer gets 50% (which is 50sp) and the other 50% (50sp) goes to the curators, i.e the voters.
Upvote and Downvote
The voting buttons has Upvote and Downvote options, when a post is upvoted, it means it get a positive vote, the curator is satisfied with the content, there is a reward for it but if a post get a downvote, it means it get a negative vote, the content is not acceptable to the curator, there is no reward for it. A post can get a mixture of Upvotes and downvotes, the rewards of the Upvoters will be given.
Voting Power
Voting power means the influence of each curators on a post. It is rated on percentage. The amount of steem power a user has determine the voting power of curators, the bigger the steem power, the bigger the voting power. Below is a screenshot of my voting power at different percentages:
Voting Mana
The voting mana is an energy level in @Steemit that depreciate over time when it's been used. The voting power get recharged by the system 20% everyday. For instance, when the voting power is at 100%, it has a reward of $0.00, at 75% it has $0.00 and like that (all are $0.00 because I'm powering down). Whenever you upvote a content, the voting power get reduced by 2%.
It is worth to know that voting a content that was posted within a period of 5mins returns a small reward to the curator.
As a curator, if I vote on a content that is just posted within 5mins, the 50% reward that suppose to be mine will not come in full: only 20% will be given to me at 1st minute, 40% at 2nd minute, 60% at 3rd minute, 80% at 4th minute and 100% at 5th minute; the remaining rewards will be returned to reward pool. So the advice is to wait until after 5mins before curating a post.
Steem Witness
Steem blockchain uses a set of people called **Witnesses ** to validate and create blocks using a consensus mechanism called delegated proof of stake. It is the community that elects witnesses to act as the network's block producer and governance body. On steem blockchain, there are 20 full-time witnesses producing a block every 63seconds while the 21st position is shared within the backup witnesses.
Below is a list of witnesses:
Voting a Witness
Every user is given the chance to vote for a witness, it can be done here Steemworld.org. It is best to choose @steemchiller to remain at the top position because of his invention and also it keeps me updated with happenings on my account.
Steemit Community
@steemit is made up of communities. The joy of @steemit is that you can join as many community as you like. Communities are created with different interests and intentions, some for sport lovers, movie lovers, pets lovers, fashion lovers, photography, politics and so on.
I've joined many communities and the communities are all doing fine and living up to their expectations. The new community that is making wave in @Steemit presently is @crypto-academy.
I appreciate you for reading through this achievement post. To the best of my knowledge, I hope I've done my best in presenting it?
You have been upvoted by @bright-obias, Steem Greeter from STEEM POD Project and we are voting with the Steemit Community Curator @steemcurator03 account to support the newcomers coming into steemit. Follow @steemitblog for the latest update on Steem Community. Steem on!
