in hive-172186 •  3 years ago  (edited)

At the start of this achievement i was a bit confused on how to carry out this task, my first week on the steemit platform one of the MOD from a community i joined silence my post because i did not add source to the image i uploaded, at that time i did not understand what i did wrong and how to source out images and quote but doing this achievement i got to understand and learn how to do so.

Achievement 3 is all about "newcomers embracing the existing steem community etiquette" the rules and principles that guide the steemit community members when making a post, users would have to post original content using their creative and imaginative ability and give citation / credit to content that are not originally theirs to avoid being flag as a plagiarist.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM ?
to my understanding plagiarism is an act or process of taking someone else work as your own without giving credit to the original owner.

“According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means: to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own, to use (another's production) without crediting the source, to commit literary theft to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source, In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward” source

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
there are different types of plagiarism
self-plagiarism
Incremental plagiarism
Global plagiarism
mosaic plagiarism

Self plagiarism
this means taking your old or previous work which has already been approved/marked and reusing it again. source

Incremental plagiarism
this means taking part of someone else work and inserting it into your own work. source

Global plagiarism
this means using someone's work as your own, for example if you where given an assignment you copy the whole work of someone else and turn it in as your own. source

Mosaic plagiarism
this means taking small parts of peoples work from different sites and joining them as one. source

ABOUT plagiarism on steemit
plagiarism reduces ones self value and dose not give acknowledgement to the original owner of a quote or work, here on steemit platform they don't tolerate or acknowledge any plagiarist, if a user must quote or use images which dose not originally belong to them they are expected to put the "source" as to where they got the image from, also quote by citing them using the markup(>) or quotes(“”)

How to avoid plagiarism ?
-by giving credit to the original owner of a quote by using the quotation mark when you copy a post without changing the original words.

Example
“Imitation is not, in fact, the greatest form of flattery. Plagiarism is wrong because it doesn’t give credit where credit is due—to the person or entity that originally created the work.” source

-also by paraphrasing someone else idea and still giving the person credit just like i did with the types of plagiarism

“I have read and understood the steemit Etiquette on steemit community and will do my best to embrace them”
