Hi Steemians!
I am Muhammad Imran. I have joined steemit a week ago and completed my 1st task of the introduction post. Now I am writing this post for my 2nd task of Basic Steem Security.
Question 1:
Have you retrieved all your keys on steemit?
Ans: Yes, I have retrieved all my keys and stored them on my laptop.
These include my Master Password, Posting Key, Memo Key, Owner Key, and Tron Key. To further secure my keys and password I also have stored them in a private place in case my laptop damages.
Question 2:
Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?
Ans: Yes, I know the functions of every key and its restrictions.
I have described the master password function and all keys in the following paragraphs.
Master Password:
I have understood from the basic security post by cryptokanon that as the name suggests Master Password is a master of every other key. It is used very little but it is the most important of all. As the picture below shows, it is connected to all other keys and in case we lost our keys then Master Password is used to change or recover them.
In another sense, like in a house, we have a safe cabinet in which we put copies of keys for different rooms, and in case we lose one of the keys, we recover from that cabinet. This Master Password is the same as that safe.
Posting Key:
It is the key that helps to perform different functions of daily use. It permits you to log in from anywhere and to post anything. In addition, it also helps to edit our posts, comment on other posts, and mute or follow other people on steem.
As a house, it is the main gate which is used most widely and by almost everyone who wants to enter or leave the house.
Active Key:
Active key is used to carry out special tasks which include money transfer and profile updating. Along with these, it is also used to convert steem dollars, power up and down, and order placing.
It can be related to that room in which valuable things cash, gold, and silver are stored in a house.
Owner Key:
It is used to change all keys which are only used for recovery purposes. Keeping its importance, I have also stored it offline as well.
In a house, it is like a storeroom, where we usually put additional locks and keys in case we have to change any of the room keys.
Memo Key:
Memo encryption and decryption are performed using the pound /# sign before this key while performing transactions and funds transfers.
Sorry, I could not be able to relate this with the house example. Anybody can help me to relate this.
Question 3
How do you plan to keep your master password?
Ans: I have stored my master password on my mobile and laptop. Furthermore, I also have stored it in a private place which I even could not tell in this post.
Question 4:
Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
Ans: Yes I know it. It is very simple and easy. Just go to your wallet and click on steem and then click on transfer. After clicking on transfer simply add the @ID of the person and your public memo key.
Question 5:
Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
Ans: Yes I know it as well. This is also very simple and basic stuff. Simply go to the wallet and click on the steem small icon. And then by clicking on power-up we can increase our steem power. Similarly, from the steem power icon, we can also power down our steem.
I have shown these two questions in the following picture.
