Greetings to all Steemians on the platform, I hope we are all doing well. It brings me much excitement to finally make head-on onto my achievement task 2 post on steem after my achievement 1 post was recently verified by @adeljose, still can’t thank you enough for that. And today I bring to you my next achievement post which is the basic security on steemit I have learnt so far, and I would like to thank @cryptokannon for her useful materials and guidelines that aided me to understand more on how to go about the post task.
I find security and defense as the most important entities to these our modern era of digitalization, and the steem security is as much important and precious as any other passwords that we have in our other networks and needs more protection too. So without further I do, here are my understanding so far on the basic security of steemit I have learnt so far;
I sure did, I was able to download my keys in pdf form from the platform during my time of signing up. I then saved it at various places for safe keeping that I can also easily retrieve them in case I lost the one I’m currently using which is highly unlikely, but just in case.
Yes I do know all of the functions of the keys and their restrictions, it was pretty confusing seeing it at first and I was wondering why they are so many? But after reading about their uses I realized their importance and use for each of them. The keys are divided into three main group of keys, these are;
• Steemit Private Keys: which consist of the private posting key, private memo keys, private active key and private owner key. These are used to perform private transactions by the user as its name implies.
• The Master Password: this I think is the most important of the keys and also the most vulnerable, because it use to generate the other keys and also the document of which the keys are in case you lose your keys. I haven’t lost my keys to use it before and I hope I never will.
• Steemit Public Keys: these keys are least important of the two group of keys as they are only associated with encrypting and verifying messages and are not required for login, but also do require protection.
I have learnt about the uses of all these keys and also where and where not to use them, and I have also kept them really safe as well.
My master password has been saved in my emails and other private networks online and can be retrieve anytime I want them by downloading after entering a password first. I do not have the master password on me or my devices, but it’s rather on the cloud and g-mail.
I do know how to transfer steem from my account to another, it is really an easy process and here are the step to it;
- Login into your steemit wallet using your username and your private posting key.
- Click on the drop down arrow button at your steem token.
- Then click on “transfer” from the drop down list that appears.
- Then enter the username of the account you wish to transfer your steem token to and then click on next to enter your private active key to issue the command.
I certainly do know how to make power ups of my steem to steem power. I have made power ups of my steem to steem power several times in other to be part of the #club5050 agenda. It is an easy procedure just like transferring steem token to a different account. The steps to power up steem are below;
Step 1 and 2 are the same as transferring steem.
- Click on “Power Up” from the drop down options that.
4 Type the amount of your steem token you want to power up and then click on the power up button below.
5 Then enter your private active key to complete the transaction.
These are the knowledge on the basic security of steem that I have learnt so far, I hope it reaches the requirement for being verified so I can proceed to the achievement task on steemit. Thank you very much coming though and all the best.
