Hello, community
This is a post in response to achievement 2 challenge as posted by @cryptokannon. It is about showing the understanding of basic security on steem. After reading all the necessary articles as instructed, I feel I have a full understanding of how security works on the platform and will now go-ahead to answer the questions as a response to the challenge.
Question 1: Have you retrieve all your keys on steemit?
Answer: Yes, I have retrieved all the keys to my account and kept them in a safe place that is only easily accessible to me on my device. I used the master password to retrieve all the keys, including posting, active, owner, and memo keys.
Question2: Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?
Answer: To the best of my understanding, yes. The posting key grants users access to make posts, comment on posts, edit posts, as well as upvote posts on the platform. The active key is necessary for transaction-related activities and is used to login to wallets. It can be used to claim payouts, transfer from one account to another, exchange in the internal market, among other things that might be too numerous to mention here. The owner key is only needed for account recovery and should not be used ordinarily while the master password is used to generate all the remaining keys.
Question 3: How do you plan to keep your master password?
Answer: I chose to print out a hard copy version of my master password and kept it in a secured folder where I keep all my credentials. By doing so, my master password is as secure as all my academic and other related credentials.
Question 4: Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
Answer: Yes. Even though I am yet to try it, I have enough knowledge of how to make transfers from one steem account to another. All I need to do is to login to my wallet using the active key, click the small arrow beside the figure that depicts the amount of steem in my wallet, and from the dropdown menu, click 'transfer'. Thereafter, I will fill the form by entering the destination account, the amount of steem/sbd that I wish to send, the memo if necessary, and then click on send.
Question 5: Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
Answer: Yes. Even though I have not tried it, the procedure is almost the same with making transfer as I described above. However, instead of clicking 'tranfer' from the dropdown menu, what I will click is 'power up'. Thereafter, I will enter the amount of steem that I wish to power up and then confirm it.
I hope with all these responses, I have been able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the blockchain in response to the challenge. I look forward to the next challenge.
Thank you!
