Hi everyone! This is my latest achievement post and the topic is on plagiarism. My name is Oluwole Busayo from Nigeria and had just recently joined this wonderful platform. This is a link to my Introductory post and also, my link to achievement2 post.
In life, originality and uniqueness is key to becoming successful. In every industry where people produce content such as videos, writings, music or other forms of art, no one else is required to produce the same content without some set of rules to follow. These rules differ from industry to industry and from product to product. These rules are kept in place so as to respect creativity and effort put in production of the work. This brings us to the concept of plagiarism.

So, What is plagiarism. I cite my definition from Scribbr:
Plagiarism means using someone else’s words or ideas without proper attribution.
Plagiarism can exist in different forms. There could be a complete using of another person's entire text. This is known as Global Plagiarism. In this form of plagiarism, the plagiarists present the contents as his own original work and refuses to cite the original content. This is very serious.
In some cases, the plagiarist might rephrase some or all of the contents and not use the original work as it is. This modification of someone else's work and presenting it as one's own is known as Paraphrasing Plagiarism.
In some cases, a person using his own work which he has produced earlier again is also termed plagiarism. It is known as Self Plagiarism. It is not as serious as stealing another person's work but one should try avoid it, and be very professional.
In my recent discovery on steemit, I see plagiarism is a very serious offence which can attract downvoting. So:
"I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them"
So therefore, the following rules should be followed:

So therefore, the following rules should be followed:
- You should never forget to cite any content you use in a post that are not originally yours
- Only make use of free copyrighted images, and always cite their source
- Always put copied texts in quotes.
- Avoid using watermarked images, they are still under copyright
Plagiarism can be accidental
Sometimes, a particular sentence one uses could have been used earlier so there are plagiarism checkers online to always use to avoid being labelled as a plagiarist. Other tools exist also to check if an image is free of copyright or not. The best step is to use images from sites like pixabay, pexels and unsplash. You can always be sure that images in these sites are free to use.
Thank you!!
