Steem greeting to all bloggers and readers and followers of my timeline on this beautiful platform. Last week you were privileged to read through my achievement2. Just your comments were mind blowing and that gives me the courage to go ahead to write to you today on my achievement2 on steem. Your comment provoked the administration to vote and gave me 🥈 VERIFIED. I will be sharing with you on the topic "PLAGIARISM ".
I will begin by defining the term plagiarism ,then we look at the various types of plagiarism, then finally we look at ways in which we can overcome plagiarism..WATCH YOUR SCREEN.
DEFINITION OF PLAGIARISM
The word plagiarism comes from a Latin word"plagiarius" which means KIDNAPPER. Different scholars have defined the term plagiarism but I will lay emphasis here in the one that sounded to me as a better There are sPlagiarism is therefore defined according to the oxford languages dictionary as "the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own."

From definition above one would clearly state that plagiarism is an ill and a criminal act. This is the work of lazy fellows who have no patience to sit down and write original content. They go into someone's publication and copy either part or a whole of the intellectual property without even making reference to the person . We shall now in the proceeding discussion look at the various types of plagiarism.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
In essence there are so many different types of plagiarism but for the purpose of this post we will just look at some few ones
- PARAPHRASING (WITHOUT ATTRIBUTION
In this case writers instead of using quotation marks to indicate that information written is from another source, the writer here just paraphrase the statement to look like they were the one who initially wrote. It happens most especially online when one just copy and paste from another person's work and then just edit and change some words. It's all Plagiarism .
- SOURCE MISATTRIBUTION
One might be tempted to think that it's just the fact of not quoting the original writer that constitutes plagiarism but when you go about citing the wrong sources of information, you find yourself in thesame pot of soup as one who did not just cite. You may have heard a single statement from one person but just that fact that you heard from the person doesn't mean the person actually is the original source of the statement.
COMMON KNOWLEDGE
There are often statements people make and consider it to be common knowledge but the fact that someone had used it earlier is enough reason to show that he is the original author and should be cited . I have a dream sounds to be common knowledge but in this case we remember that Martin Luther uses it first in his speech. And so if you are using th statement you must quote him.DIRECT PLAGIARISM
This implies copying from another authur veberting. No reference. Trying to change some portions but trying to portray the work as being yours.COMPLETE PLAGIARISM
This is the worst from of plagiarism. That you copy someone's publication into yours exactly the way it was and not make any reference to the original author. That is you copy from multiple sources and paste but you dont even edit or cite the sourceMOSAIC PLAGIARISM
In thisntypenit simple means you copy from a source and you paste and edit ,thereby removing the original meaning of the statement you copiedACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
As the word implies it means mistakenly copying from a source and forgetting to cite or misquoting with no intention of doing so thereby falling prey to plagiarismSELF PLAGIARISM
This is a form common mostly in academic writings. When an author uses material in his/her early thesis and in writing the current one copies part of it. It's all plagiarism. Or copying what you used at a lower level to use in the higher level.
Having studied the various forms of plagiarism we should look at ways of avoiding it. If at the end we can't avoid plagiarism we all will do the same thing we are writing against.
HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
If one has to be save from being tied down by plagiarism, yyou must keep to the rules below
Keep track of the sources you consult in your research.
Paraphrase or quote from your sources (and add your own ideas).
Credit the original author in an in-text citation and reference list.
Use a plagiarism checker before you submit
Write your own work from scratch
Use quotation marks
And most importantly seek advice from mentors and your superiors.
