Hello everyone,
On today's achievement task I'm going to be talking about the security on steemit. After I created my account I was given a PDF containing various keys that I was advised to keep in a secure place and keep safe. A first look at the PDF I felt all the keys were unnecessary and too many until @alphafx explained the use of the keys and considering how vulnerable and complex steemit is I'd say the security is appropriate. To the questions now:
Question 1
Have you retrieve all your keys on steemit?
Ans: Yes I have. To retrieve the keys, I had to log in to my wallet with my master key and click on “Keys and Permissions”.
Question2
Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions
And: Yes,below you'll see the various keys and it's uses
KEYS IN STEEMIT
PRIVATE MASTER PASSWORD: Through it, a steemit user can generate other keys/ passwords and because of this it is the most important key. You are advised to keep this key offline in case of hackers
PRIVATE POSTING KEY: This is another important password containing about 50 characters. It's the key you're most likely to use alot because its the key that is used to log in to a user's account to make posts, upvoting and downvoting, commenting on posts, editing posts too and also resteeming posts. You can also use it to access your steemit wallet
PRIVATE OWNER'S KEY: The private owner's key is a key used for recovery, in case the account user needs to change their password, or their account becomes compromised.
PRIVATE ACTIVE KEY: The private active key is used for wallet transactions, like buying steem power, converting SBD [steem dollars] to steem, updating profile details on your profile and placing orders on the market. It can also be used to transfer funds.
MEMO KEY: The memo key is used for encryption and decryption of memos when transferring funds.
The private keys above, should not be exposed or shared with third parties, and should be kept safe. It should be stored in different locations preferably offline in a USB drive or printed out and kept safe. It should also be backed up to prevent loss.
Question 3
How do you plan to keep your master password?
Ans: I will print out my keys especially my master password and store in a deposit box.
Question 4
Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
This is what the steem wallet looks like
Ans: Yes
TRANSFERING STEEM TO ANOTHER STEEM USER ACCOUNT
STEP1: click on the little drop down button besides the steem value
STEP2: select the first Transfer and a dialogue interface would show up,
STEP3: Fill in the boxes adequately, fill in the address of the receiver in the 'to' box click on Next, this should take you to a "transfer successful" page.
