The security system on Steemit is really something else. Instead of being able to just enter your password, suddenly there are all these fancy keys you are supposed to use for security. 4 keys, to be more exact.
There's your Posting Key that is the most basic key you need for your daily activities: posting, commenting, editing, voting and following or muting other accounts.
Then there's your Active Key for more sensitive tasks suck as transferring funds, converting Steem Dollars and updating profile details.
The third, Owner key, can change any key of an account, including the owner key.
And finally, the Memo Key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring funds.
I have retrieved all my keys and understand how they work. I have them saved in my Excel Worksheet where I keep my access details to different platforms, but even so I'm still a little wary about logging out Steemit for the fear of not being able to get back in :).

If I was you I would also save your Steemit keys on a USB flash drive or print them out, or write them down
My Laptop yesterday stopped working and lost everything, so I am glad that was not the only place I had them saved😎
