Here on steemit,having the basic knowledge of steemit security protocols is of prime importance cause of the nature of the platform. Steemit is a decentralised platform that leaves users accounts and security in the hands of individual bloggers, bloggers control,authorise and cancel transactions at will. Steemit and the steemit team will not be held liable for any unauthorized access to individual accounts,thus the need for extreme caution.

Steemit has carefully developed a reliable security protocol to protect its users data, and funds,while operating as a fully decentralised system: The use of steemit keys proved to be a landmark of security in a decentralised system.

We love and value our safety wherever we find ourselves,Security in every endeavour of life is of utmost importance,whether physical,or cyber security we value and cherish our safety. These basic instinct are further heightened when we hear of large scale security breach on popular exchanges and platforms, the recent Twitter hack is just an epic example of the need to secure individual accounts.

The steem private keys are used Instead of password based authentication, blockchain accounts have a set of public and private key pairs that are used for authentication as well as the encryption and decryption of data.

The posting key -Private Posting Key are Used to log in to apps such as Steemit.com and perform social actions such as posting, commenting, and voting.

Private Memo- This Key is Used to decrypt private transfer memos.

Private Active- This Key is Used for monetary and wallet related actions, such as transferring tokens or powering STEEM up and down.

Private Owner Key-This key is used to reset all your other keys. It is recommended to keep it offline at all times. If your account is compromised, use this key to recover it within 30 days at https://steemitwallet.com.

Public keys- These keys are associated with usernames and are used to encrypt and verify messages. Your public keys are not required for login. You can view these anytime at: https://steemd.com/@(your username)
