Hello Steemites,

As a new Steem user, I have retrieved all my keys on steemit using my master password. These keys include; posting key, active key, owner key, and memo key. These keys are very crucial in operating on Steemit. Unlike other accounts, in the case of forgot password, where a new one can be created. There's no room for creating another password for lost password. Thus it is advisable for a Steemit user to duplicate keys offline.

I have studied these keys to know their different functions and restrictions. For clarity, these keys differ in function as stated earlier. These keys are used for authentication, encryption, and decryption of data. First, the master password as the name implies, is superior to other keys. It is used to generate other keys including the owner key. The master password if exposed, can be used to steal an account and the tokens therein.

It is noteworthy to differentiate between master password and owner key. Master password is only used to generate other keys and for account recovery. It is the password received upon signing up. While owner key is the most powerful key and used when necessary to change any key of an account including the owner key. It is used to recover a hacked account. It should be stored offline as well.

Posting key is used to log in to Steemit and to carry out social actions like; posting, commenting, voting, resteem, follow other user, mute account etc.

Lastly, active key performs the following tasks; transferring funds, power up/down transactions, converting Steem Dollars,voting for witnesses, updating profile details and avatar, and placing a market order.

My master password and other keys have been stored offline. I printed a hardcopy of it and saved it in my file. I also wrote them out in my diary.

Steem token can be transferred to another user account by following these steps;

1. Click on wallet
2. Click on options
3. Sign in using your username and active key
4. Scroll down and click on Steem Dollars
5. Click on transfer
6. Input your username and the username of recipient
7. Click on next and complete transaction.

I have also learnt to power up my Steem. To do this, follow these steps;

1. Click on wallet
2. Sign in
3. Click power up next ( a page requesting the number of Steem you would like to power up to Steem power)
4. Them, click on power up and that's the end of the transaction.
