During basic school, one of the most hilarious times was when people were asked to read a french essay about themselves in front of the class. That is when you will see the shortest boy in class describing himself as "I am 180cm tall" and the slim lanky guy describing himself as 100cm tall with 200 pounds on the scale. 😂 I remember there was this guy who was so dark that a friend of mine used to tease him that if he ever holds a black bible and stands infront of a congregation, the bible will not be seen.

Meanwhile, this guy will stand infront of the class and read out "I am fair in complexion". The whole class including the teacher was soaked in uncontrollable laughter 😂😂😂 I am almost laughing out at the memory whiles writing this.😂😂 Basic school was really fun😂😂😂. That event happened to be the first time I heard the word "Plagiarize".

Plagiarism is utilizing an intellectual property without giving reference or credits to the original author. It is literally stealing from the minds of people. Plagiarism is as serious a crime as stealing material property. The major thing that differentiates steemit from other social media platforms is the rewarding of content using the steem cryptocurrency. In other cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, rewards are giving for solving very complex mathematical problems. This is called proof of work. But on steemit, rewards are giving for brainstorming and producing original content, and thus it is termed as proof of brain. The prerequisite for being on steemit is a functioning and non sluggish brain. You got to work!! It's is not a magical land of honey and milk. The process of mining on steemit is producing original content. And as such, plagiarism is like using the backdoor. Highly prohibited.

There are three primary ways to cite or reference an intellectual property on steemit

A copied and pasted work without alteration

Such a work is cited by using the the blockquote tag and “” as demonstrated below

As stated by Nelson Mandela:
"Real leaders must be ready to sacrifice all for the freedom of their people"

Paraphrased Intellectual work

Such a work is cited by using the "blogquote" tag only as demonstrated below
From Nelson Mandela we know that:
For one to be called a real leader, he must be willing to lay down everything including his life to liberate his people

Citing an image

And image is cited by providing a link to the original source of the image as in:

https://www.goalcast.com/

Plagiarism is only one of the errs on steemit, There are other dos's and don'ts on steemit such as

  • Don't over post
  • Don't post and run
  • Don't post nudity unless you tag with NSFW
  • Check out new pots and curate other
  • Answer your comments
  • etc.
  • I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
