I am being priviledged to see the beautiful day today.
My write up today would be on my Achievement 3 task: Content etiquette. I have read the post and would be sharing my understanding of plagiarism.

What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism can be defined as the act of "stealing and publicating another authors language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions and representing them as ones own original work."

Or Simply put; it is an act of stealing or citing another authors work without giving him credit he deserve. this is very bad.

Plagiarism might not be the same in all countries. Some countries, such as India and Poland, consider plagiarism to be a crime, and there have been cases of people being imprisoned for plagiarizing.source
This really shows how bad plagriarism is and why steemit as a community frown at it.

Forms or types of plagiarism

(1) Using portions of text from a single source without quotations marks and citation.

(2) submitting someones elses work, words or idea as your own.

(3) Giving incorrect information about the source of a quotations.

Having read about Plagiarism, i have come to find out how bad it is and would want to share on steps to avoid it.

There are many ways to avoid Plagiarism in writing but i will love to highlight few.

(1) Parapharase: this is a method by which i put someones else ideas in my own words while still giving proper credit.

(2) Acknowledgement: this entails that i give credit to the author by citing source whenever i use someone else thoughts or ideas.
for example

riches are the ransom for a mans life but the poor are not even threatened

Proverbs 13:8

(3) Quotations: place all direct quotes inside quotation marks.
Example:
"Desire when realized is sweet to a person".

I am happy to have been part of the steemit family and having reached to Achievement 3, i am glad to say that "I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them"
