Good day to my friends, fellow steemians and steem curators. First, thank you for the continued support and for the opportunity to share my life, express my thoughts and opinions of the different topics and contest. It is a great pleasure to be part in this platform, a community of interconnectedness. To @cryptokannon, @steemcurator01, @steemcurator02, @steemcurator03, @steemcurator06, @steemcurator08, and @booming01 you have greatly made an impact on me and to all the steemians.
Today I will continue my history in steemit which is for me a journey in process. As I take part on the quest of accomplishing the different achievement task in the newcomers community. I think it is almost a month now that I have accomplished Achievement 01: Verification through introduction and Achievement 02: Knowing the Significance of Steemit Keys. Now, I want to proceed in the next level which dwells on the concept of content etiquette and plagiarism. On a personal note, I had a bad experienced in terms of content etiquette in which my achievement 02 post was copied, even the picture with my name. Well, I guess there are just some people who will do that even with strict rules.
With the recent experienced I want to emphasize that I am not angry about it, I just want to make clear that my ideas are a product of hard work and dedication. It is only fair that I was able to at least call the attention of the steemian who copied my post. Ever since then, I am happy to inform that we made a connection, and he is now doing well in the platform abiding with content etiquette.
What is Content Etiquette?
We are now in the digital age, and every information is just one click away provided with strong internet connection. You can get a lot of sources if you want to post a blog, talk about an issue, or even share information. However, you should be keen to put limitations on the following aspect like sharing, citing and stealing ideas/information, there is a thin line between them. We should always emphasize content etiquette. According to Cambridge dictionary the word etiquette is defined as the set of rules or customs that control accepted behavior in a particular social group or social institutions. Therefore, it is understood that steemit community strongly imposed the standard against plagiarism.
What is Plagiarism?
According to Merrian-Webster Online Dictionary plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it. I want to highlight that plagiarism can have a major effect especially in the steemit community. It can have an effect because the community want to become an established platform as a source of information that can be trusted. We are talking about etiquette earlier, how can we follow such standard if we copy and steal others idea. In a long run the platform may face serious legal issues if authors from different books or internet sources found out that there works are being used without proper recognition or citation of authors, and sources. We do not want that to happen, as we all dream that the platform/community will be bigger and better that can compete with various social platform.
How can we follow content etiquette and avoid plagiarism?
As what I am trying to emphasize almost all information are on the internet, it is a great deal to follow content etiquette and avoid plagiarism. There are a lot of suggestions and recommendations in order to do that, and all of the information can be read and research in the internet. What I want to imply here, is that we need to be original. Learn to explore and be creative in creating our post in that way we can be certain that we are stealing and violating the copyrights of other content creators. If there are information you get from other authors always do proper citation.
Mark 12:17Then Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."
This is @nickjon reaffirming that I understand and will follow content etiquette and avoid plagiarism in the steemit community.
Super thanks for the full support @cryptokannon, @booming01, @steemcurator01, @steemcurator02, @steemcurator03, @steemcurator06, @steemcurator08. To my fellow steemians, a compliment of thanks and praise.
Sincerely,
@nickjon
