"SECURITY IS A NECESSITY FOR CONTINUITY." Please take note of that as you read on.
Never before have I seen a platform with such mind blowing security keys as steemit. Honestly when I first saw those keys, I was like, common, what the hell are these keys for? But to the Glory of God, not only do I know those keys, I also know exactly how to use each of them. A big thanks to my teacher @ziongater and a thunderous shout out to my mentor @cryptocannon for bringing such educative concept on steemit. So far for me, this is the most important aspect of steemit.
Haven said that, let me quickly rush you through the business of today which is answering questions asked by my able mentor @cryptocannon.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
Question1
HAVE YOU RETRIEVE ALL YOUR KEYS ON STEEMIT?
Yes, I certainly have. My keys were given to me upon the creation of my account. I was advised to save the keys, so I heeded the advice, retrieved the keys and saved them where they are only accessible by me.
Question 2
DO YOU KNOW EACH OF THESE KEYS FUNCTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS?
YES I DO. Each of these keys have their respective functions and we will see them in their respective paragraphs.
Posting key
The posting key, is the key that grants me the rights to vote on posts, comment, create posts and edit them as well, follow accounts and mute accounts as well. The existence of the posting key restricts access to my wallet and other parts of my account on Steemit in case of a compromised password. So, the posting key is necessary only for the basic daily activities of my account.
Active key
The active key, is the key that grants me the rights to carry out more sensitive tasks that deals with my wallet and other sensitive parts of my account. It permits me to transfer funds, power up or power down accounts, convert Steem to SBD and SBD to Steem, vote for witnesses, updating my profile settings, and making a market order.
Owner key
The owner key, grants me the rights to change all the other keys of my account and this makes it the strongest of the keys. It is used to recover all other keys in case of compromised keys. This key should be kept very private and in an offline location, like written in a book.
Memo key
Memo key is usually for sending messages to other users of Steemit by using a hash tag in our message.
Master PASSWORD
The word master said it all. This key is the master of all the other keys of my account. It gives me the right to recreate all the other keys including the owner key, so I stored it with utmost precautions. It is used only in account recovery.
Now , I have understood that All keys are most important for all of us. I recommend all of you to store all your steemit private keys offline.
Question 3
HOW DO YOU PLAN TO KEEP YOUR MASTER PASSWORD?
My master password, has been kept very safely in different secure locations which include:
Screenshots are stored in my Online drive.
Written down in my book
The pdf file with all my keys are stored on a USB drive.
Question 4
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO TRANSFER YOUR STEEM TO ANOTHER STEEM USER ACCOUNT?
Yes. To transfer steem, I will simply:
-Go to my steemit profile
-Click on wallet
-Then click on my steem balance then list would come out(Transfer, Transfer to savings, Power up, Trade, Market) -Then I would click on transfer and then fill the required space and click on next.
QUESTION 5
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO POWER UP YOUR STEEM? Yes i do. -I would click on my profile
-Go to my wallet
-Click on steem balance -Click on power up and fill the required space.
