Hello Everyone 😁
It's Olivia here again! Ready to stop making promises I can't keep.
If you're new to my posts, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about but, that's alright. You can quickly read my last post or, the one before that and you'll get the gist of things.
What exactly is Plagiarism?

"Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition." Source
Plagiarism is basically passing someone else's work off as your own. It doesn’t matter whether or not anyone else is going to see it, it's just wrong.
How can we avoid Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is not only limited to malicious folk who try to rip people off, it also applies to well meaning individuals who are products of influence.
Thus, it is always best to steer clear of plagiarism at all costs especially on Steemit and in 4 easy steps I can teach you how.Source
Step 1. Cite, Cite and Cite Again
I can not overemphasise how important it is to cite your sources of information. All texts and images that are NOT PRODUCED BY YOU should always have the correct citations accompanying them. Your source cannot just be the general are/website where you found the info, it must be the precise webpage right down to the very line of text if possible.
- You cite when you directly copy.
- You cite when you paraphrase.
- You cite when you borrow ideas.
Just remember to always cite.
Step 2. Use Quotation Marks (They are right there on your keyboard/keypad for you to use)
Quotation marks aren't just fanciful punctuation marks with no real purpose, they are essential tools to be used. To avoid unnecessary plagiarism penalty fees, use your quotation marks when you directly copy and paste material without changing it.
Step 3. Use a Checker!
Human beings are a product of influence so, it is not uncommon for people to unknowingly reproduce something they've read or heard. However, what is absurd is not running your write-ups through a plagiarism checker ESPECIALLY WHEN PUBLISHING ON STEEMIT.
Yes, some of these checkers are ridiculously expensive but, there are many that are affordable and even free such as small SEO tools. You just have to be willing to look past the first search page on Google. 😒
Step 4. JUST DO YOU!!!
Above all other tips and tricks for avoiding plagiarism, the most important is that we try to always keep things 💯, Stealing is never the answer.
A very big thanks to @cryptokannon, @steemcleaners, @steem.history for the helpful links, lessons and tips.
Then a very special thanks to @harryel for refusing to let me give up on Steemit and pushing me to finally post again.
Now I can definitely say, I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them. 😊
Stay safe all and be good 😊
