Hello steemians, I am excited to be here again with my number 3 achievement.

Now, I will be creating a post on meaning of Plagiarism, types of plagiarism and ways to avoid plagiarism.

   PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is a very important context to be well informed about as a writer, speaker, artist and other aspects of life. I came across the word 'plagiarism' often during my school days and also applied it appropriately during my project work. With this I am well guided on writing about it.

   Meaning of plagiarism :

In a simple term, plagiarism is the act of making use of other people's idea and information without acknowledging or referencing the original author of the work.
Plagiarism can also mean taking someone else’s work as your own. In this case, the person's ideas, words, or information maybe used and no proper citation is made to that effect.

Plagiarism is a despicable and dishonest act carried out by lazy content creators that lacks creativity but only interested in producing articles, speech, drawings etc.
A plagiarizer is a thief who has nothing in their own knowledge.

Plagiarism has become a global problem as can be seen amongst students, academics, politicians, artist, even on the steemit platform where a lot of people easily lift other people's write up and make it theirs. Most countries have strict laws against plagiarism and copyright of other people's information which ranges from punishment like forfeiting of grade or qualifications obtained from plagiarized work, community service or even imprisonment.

      Types of plagiarism

We have various types of plagiarism but I am going to list a few here, namely;

  • Direct plagiarism

  • Mosaic plagiarism

  • Self plagiarism

  • Global plagiarism

  • Accidental plagiarism

     Ways to avoid to plagiarism

We can be free from the guilt of plagiarism in our writing by adopting the following steps.

  • taking note of the sources consulted during the course of the work.
  • giving credits to the original owner of the work in your reference list and citation.
  • Summarizing an information in your own words when you are expressing such idea or information from a source.
  • making use of plagiarism detection tool to make comparison with your text.
