Hello to the Steemit community.Steemit is really a learning ground.I hope to learn more and more. Before now,I have completed my Achievement 1 and 2....and I wish to make my Achievement 3 post today.
ACHIEVEMENT 3: PLAGIARISM
As humans,no one likes to have his assets or ideas stolen.Do we??
We get angry when another person gets credit for our work.We may see it as 👇
Monkey dey work,Baboon dey chop(Pidgin English adage)
Plagiarism is simply the action of recopying, rewriting, pasting or lifting of part of or the whole work of another person without citing the original source or without laying credit to the original author.
It is a process of parading oneself as the author of a work originally written by another person.Plagiarism violets the copyright of the original author.
In a broader sense,Plagiarism is an intellectual theft because it involves stealing the idea of another person without citing or crediting the work to the original owner.
Here on Steemit, Plagiarism is highly prohibited and it can lead to downvoting or banning of any one who repeatedly indulge in such act.
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
There are many ways or forms that Pagiarism can happen.
•COPY AND PASTE PLAGIARISM
This involves copying and pasting part of someone's work(maybe a paragraph) without citation.
•MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
In this case the plagiarist, copies different lines from different authors and then uses it to create a psuedo new post or line.
•GLOBAL PLAGIARISM
This involves presenting a work written by another person as if it was written by you.For example I took a piece of work written by my father, and began to parade myself as the author of the work.
•SELF PLAGIARISM
Just as the name implies, this involves copying and pasting a paragraph or whole work previously written by oneself without citation.
Diagrams and pictures are also subject to Plagiarism.
PENALTY FOR PLAGIARISM ON STEEMIT
•It can lead to one losing his reputation. You can imagine your reputation making a nose dive from 60 to 11.
•Steemit can ban a plagiarist from participating in a contest or other activities on Steemit.
•One can have his rewards downvoted by up to 20% if found guilty of plagiarism.
Plagiarism has no place on Steemit. So do the much you can to avoid such act.
HOW CAN I AVOID PLAGIARISM
•CITATION
Cite the source of the text or information. For example part of the source of my Achievement 3 post is from here 👉source
•PARAPHRASING/QUOTATION
You paraphrase or quote the source of the text or information. For example According to Oxford dictionary
"Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement."
WHAT CAN I DO??
You can check for plagiarism in your work by using this plagiarism checker
Paste the text in the box and click on Check Plagiarism. It would scan the work so pasted.
Special thanks to @samuel20 for his guidance and mentorship.
