Hello Steemit Family

So guys here we will discuss about plagiarism, its types and ways to avoid it
So let's get started
Plagiarism
The act of using someone else's work or ideas without giving them proper credit. This can include copying and pasting text from a source without citation, paraphrasing someone else's work without attribution, or using someone else's ideas without acknowledging them.
"Various Kinds of Plagiarism"
1 Direct plagiarism | 2 Self-plagiarism | 3 Mosaic plagiarism |
4 Accidental plagiarism | 5 Paraphrasing plagiarism | 6 Verbatim plagiarism |
These types are discussed here
1 Direct plagiarism
The act of copying someone else's work word-for-word without giving proper credit or citation. It is a form of academic dishonesty and is considered unethical and illegal. Direct plagiarism can occur in written or spoken form, and can involve any type of content, including text, images, audio, and video.
2 Self-plagiarism
It is also known as duplicate publication, is the act of reusing one's own previously published work without proper citation or acknowledgement. It can occur when an author submits the same manuscript or parts of it to multiple publications, or when an author republishes their own work in a new context without disclosing that it has been previously published.
3 Mosaic plagiarism
A type of plagiarism where a person takes phrases, sentences, or paragraphs from a source and incorporates them into their own work without proper citation or attribution. Unlike other forms of plagiarism, mosaic plagiarism involves using a mix of original and copied material, often rearranged or slightly modified to create the appearance of originality.
4 Accidental plagiarism
A type of plagiarism that occurs when a person unintentionally uses someone else's work without proper citation or attribution. This can happen when a person is not aware of the rules of citation, or when they mistakenly believe that the information they are using is common knowledge and does not require citation.
5 Paraphrasing plagiarism
The act of using someone else's ideas or work and rephrasing it in your own words without giving proper credit or citation. It is still considered plagiarism because the original work is not being acknowledged and the paraphrased version is essentially stealing the ideas of the original author.
6 Verbatim plagiarism
The act of directly copying someone else's work or ideas without giving proper credit or citation. This includes using exact phrases, sentences, or paragraphs from the original source without any changes or alterations. Verbatim plagiarism is considered a serious offense in academic and professional settings.
Ways to avoid plagiarism
1. Use your own words:
When writing, use your own words to express ideas and concepts. If you need to use a direct quote, make sure to put it in quotation marks and cite the source.
2. Cite your sources:
Whenever you use someone else's work or ideas, make sure to give them proper credit by citing the source. This includes both in-text citations and a bibliography or reference list at the end of your work.
3. Use plagiarism detection tools:
There are many online tools available that can help you check your work for plagiarism. Some popular options include Turnitin, Grammarly, and Copyscape.
4. Understand the rules:
Make sure you understand the rules and guidelines for citing sources in your particular field or discipline. Different fields may have different citation styles or requirements.
5. Be proactive:
If you're not sure whether something constitutes plagiarism, ask your teacher or professor for guidance. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
Here's an example of how to cite a source in APA format:
According to Smith (2019),
"plagiarism is a serious academic offense" (p. 23).
