Google Translate can now translate text from images on the web, making it easier for users to read and understand text in different languages. With the same technology used in Google Lens' AR Translate tool, Google Translate on the web offers real-time translations for uploaded images or screenshots.
To use the feature, users can simply upload an image or screenshot from their computer to the Google Translate website and select the new Images tab at the top. With 113 available source languages that can be automatically detected and 133 destination languages, the translation is seamless and in most cases, looks like the original text. Additionally, users can copy the translated text, download the translated image, or clear it.
The technology behind the feature is powered by generative adversarial networks (GAN), which is the same technology used in Google Lens' AR Translate tool. With the latest version of Google Lens, the translation appears to replace the original text, rather than superimpose it on top.
By adding this new feature to Google Translate on the web, users can now easily translate text from images and improve their understanding of foreign languages. This new feature is a great addition to Google's suite of translation tools and can be incredibly helpful for businesses and individuals alike.
