Security means safety. It is basically the safekeeping of assets, properties and lifes from danger, destruction or misplacement.

In the Steemit platform, basic security is simply the safeguarding of your keys, to avoid it's misplacement or it's placement in the wrong hands so as to avoid losing all the assets deposited in the Steemit wallet.

The diverse keys that needs protecting/safekeeping in Steemit are;

Posting key

With the posting key, users are allowed to make posts, comment and vote posts. This is the key required to sign in to a Steemit account as well as the username of the account.

Owner key

This is the most important key out if all other keys in the Steemit platform. This key acts as an override to all settings as well as being allowed to do everything a posting key and a master password does and more such as voting for Steem Witnesses. It also grants full permission to change all keys including itself.

Active key

The active key performs all actions of the owner key except the changing of the ownership itself. With the active key; transfer, delegation, trading internal market, purchasing of Steem with SBD is made possible.

Memo key

The memo key is used to the only key creates specifically for encoding and decoding messages on the Steemit platform. Though It has not started its use due to private messages not being a thing in Steemit, though it is expected to serve its use in the future. This key is also required in transactions from Steemit to other platform and vice versa.

Permission key

A permission is basically a key that grants users access to their Steemit account.

THE STEEMIT WALLET

The Steemit wallet is an online wallet that houses assets obtained in the Steemit platform.
The wallet gives users the estimated value of all their assets in dollars(USD).

The Steemit wallet comprises of four sub-wallets that houses specific cryptocurrency.

• Steem wallet: Holds steem coins acquired by users.

• Steem power(SP) wallet: Holds powered up steem acquired by a user. A steem power is basically steem that has been powered up so as to enable greater influence in the steemit Blockchain.

• Steem dollar wallet: This holds steem dollars acquired by users.

• Tron: holds Tron coins acquired by users.

HOW TO TRANSFER STEEM/STEEM DOLLARS

Step 1

Click the profile picture icon, a list of options will appear. Click on wallet.

Step 2

After clicking ‘wallet’ a page will appear will appear. Under steem, click the alternative button and the options will appear. Click on transfer.

Step 3

On clicking transfer, a page will appear where you'd be given a space to input whichever username you wish to make the transfer to and also input your memo key, then proceed to click next.

HOW TO POWER UP STEEM

Step 1

After clicking ‘wallet’ a page will appear will appear. Under steem , click the alternative button and the options will appear. Click on power up.

On clicking power up, a page will appear where you'd be given a space to input the amount of Steem you wish to power up. Then proceed to click ‘power up’.
