Hello friends of this beautiful community "Newcomers Community" today I want to present my ACHIEVEMENT 3 in order to continue growing and learning on this excellent steemit platform,

It is important to highlight that this steemit platform allows us to be original and authentic people, thus establishing the difference between all. In order to emerge and put into practice our virtues and talents. That is why we must have full knowledge about plagiarism and why we must avoid it.

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is considered as the theft or usurpation of ideas, works, works, words, thoughts, projects and everything that someone takes as if it were done by them without giving recognition to the original author.

The Glossary of the World Intellectual Property Organization defines plagiarism as: "The act of offering or presenting as one's own, in whole or in part, the work of another person, in a more or less altered form or context.

Types of plagiarism

  • Direct Plagiarism
  • Plagiarism Mosaic
  • Complete Plagiarism
  • Self Plagiarism

Direct Plagiarism

"Direct plagiarism is the most obvious form of plagiarism. This means taking someone else’s ideas or work and claiming them as your own, without citation. Even if you delete or change a couple words here and there, it is direct plagiarism if the majority of the structure and words are the same.source

Plagiarism Mosaic

Mosaic plagiarism, also known as a patchwork plagiarism or incremental plagiarism, is one of the common types of plagiarism where the students are mostly the usual producer of mosaic plagiarism violation.source

Complete Plagiarism

Complete plagiarism is the most severe form of plagiarism where a researcher takes a manuscript or study that someone else created, and submits it under his or her name. It is equivalent to intellectual theft and stealing.source

Self Plagiarism

Self-plagiarism is commonly described as recycling or reusing one’s own specific words from previously published texts. While it doesn’t cross the line of true theft of others’ ideas, it nonetheless can create issues in the scholarly publishing world. Beyond verbatim sections of text, self-plagiarism can also refer to the publication of identical papers in two places (sometimes called “duplicate publication”). Moreover, it is best practice to cite your previous work thoroughly, even if you are simply revisiting an old idea or a previously published observation.source

How can we avoid plagiarism?

The best way to avoid or not commit plagiarism is to be the author of our own content, I mean by these that we must be original and creative when preparing a text and this can be achieved by making use of our own ideas, words, imagination, starting from our experiences, culture and knowledge taking into account that we are thinking and different beings.

We must also bear in mind that when we use an image, or some internet content we must identify it as follows.

If it is an image, we must place the source from where it was extracted and thus we give it the value and respect the copyright.

Example

source

If it is a text, we must identify it as a quotation by placing at the beginning of the paragraph > where the content will reflect you in gray letters being this the characteristic of a text that is not your belonging, thus respecting the copyright of the author.

Example

Why shouldn't I plagiarize?

  • Because it harms our training and qualification in the long term, it makes us worse professionals.

  • We get used to a path that impoverishes us, makes us less capable, creative, innovative.

  • We would not like them to take advantage of our work.
Taking advantage of the work of others is a selfish act.

  • It may also entail criminal liability or academic sanctions.

  • The same technologies that serve to copy easily allow you to discover plagiarism.

  • Using, respecting and recognizing sources makes us learn.

  • Learning makes us more competent, more autonomous, freer and more valuable.

It is important to know that when we avoid plagiarism, we can be gallant to be the authors and with this have the satisfaction of being honest, ethical, original, unique people, successfully recognizing the value and credibility of our work.
