Hi, everyone.

In life, it's very important to give credit to whom is due. Acknowledging people for what they've done or said is certainly the right way to make things right. Every creator or writer is very proud of his/her work hence it's highly expected that due appreciation and recognition will be given to him/her.

Because of this, not giving credit to people for their works bring complications because they are never recognized as the rightful owner.

Etiquette is a general term that basically defines the regulations and rules that define the behavioral conduct of people in a given society. In this context, on the steemit platform. This outlines the code of behavior in every community or society.

“Most of the etiquette experts in our world agree that proper etiquette begins by showing respect for others, being honest, and trustworthy, putting others at ease, and showing kindness and courtesy to others.”

With respect to content etiquette, this generally implicates the rules that usually govern the creation, sharing, and the use of the content; either quoted from another person's work or created by any person. Having knowledge of these rules is a crucial part of writing. This is because it helps one to know how the type of content that's accepted in the community and also teaches one not to plagiarise anyone's work.

Usually, we tend to narrow content etiquette to only plagiarism, that's copying someone's work without the proper recognition of them being the original creators. However, the content etiquette I'm talking about here goes beyond this lens of glasses. Content etiquette encompasses the language tone that's used in one's work. That's are they harsh, rude, or abusive to readers? This also governs the type of information that's added to the steemit ecosystem. It is, therefore, necessary and prudent that, every writer must read the content etiquette of the society in which they find themselves.

Plagiarism is one of the most recently discussed topics when it comes to content etiquette in writing societies.

Plagiarism is considered a sort of cheating that involves the utilization of another person's words, ideas, art, design, etc., as one's own in part or whole without acknowledging the author or obtaining his or her permission. The most common types of plagiarism are;
Direct plagiarism- dabbing another writer's work with no intention to acknowledge that the data or information was found in an external source.

  • Paraphrasing without citation; that's changing the words of a source but then the idea remains the same without citing.

  • The misrepresentation of common knowledge- one assuming the information is a common knowledge hence failing to cite.

This can be avoided by always citing your source. This will show that the concept isn't ours. One can also use quotations to avoid plagiarism. Paraphrasing one's writeup also helps in avoiding plagiarism. It's also very important to come up with your own ideas when writing. By doing this, our content and write-ups will always be free from plagiarism.

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
