Hi guys this post is in relation to the Basic Security on Steem and the importance of our given/auto-generated Steem Keys.

What are Steem Keys

Steem keys are our important passwords in Steemit and should be keep somewhere safe and should never be disclosed to anybody. These keys will protect our Steemit accounts and most importantly it will protect our Steemit wallet.

Things that I did as a newbie in Steemit to protect my Steem Keys

Steem Keys is very important for ensuring the safety of my Steemit account and so I downloaded the pdf file of my auto-generated Steem Keys and kept it somewhere safe where nobody else knows. I never disclosd or shared my Steem keys to anybody even my friends who are also member in Steemit because this is personal and important.

Understanding Steem Keys and it's functions

As I was reading how important Steem Keys are I've also learned the difference of these important keys the " Master Password ", "Active Key"and " Posting Key ".

➡️ Master Password is the most important and very crucial key of all. This key should be kept somewhere safe and should never be shared to anybody since this key can be used to both social and financial activities or any other activities in Steemit App that's why it's called the " Master Password ". All keys was derived from this password and to put it simply this is the *"Mother of all Steem Keys". Once the hacker hacked this password your Steemit account and Steemit Wallet account is in grave danger. And we don't want this to happen that's why we should always keep in mind that this password should be saved securely at all times.

➡️ Active Key on the other hand is used to perform important activities such as transferring of steem power, power-ups, voting/upvoting and buying of steem in the market using Steem dollars. This key should be kept safe too because it is used to perform important activities that involves tokens in your wallet.

➡️ Posting Key is the most common key used in Steemit in doing social activities such as posting and upvoting. This key is the least important key of all because eventhough the hacker might hack this key he can never touch the tokens in your wallet since this key has it's usage limits and can't be used to perform any other activities such as financial activities.

What is Steem Token ,Transferring Steem and Power-Ups

➡️ Steem Token is a tradeable token that can be transferred to different user anytime as long as you have enough token to transfer and can be converted as " Steem Power " in a process called powering-up. This token can be earned through rewards by posting contents in the community

➡️ How to Transfer Steem

• First log-in to https://steemitwallet.com using your username and your Posting Key

• Then go to STEEM and click the 🔻drop-down button select Transfer

• Fill out the necesary info such as the user where you want to transfer your STEEM and the desired amount to transfer then click " Next"

• Confirm transaction and click " Ok " then you will be asked to log in again using " Active Key "

• You will know if the transaction was successful once the amount of your STEEM was deducted.

➡️ ***How to Power-Up

This is the amount of STEEM I have before powering up. I have 3 STEEM ready for power-up.

Here's how to power up.

• First go to STEEM click the 🔻drop-down button select "Power-up"

• Select an amount to power-up then click " power-up.

• Confirm transfer to vesting then click OK. Then you will be asked to Sign in using your Active Key

• After the process this is how my STEEM looked like. This means the 3 STEEM was successfully converted to Steem Power.

Conclusion

Therefore, Steem Keys are very important in doing transactions/activities in Steem App and it's our obligation to protect our accounts by ensuring that the Steem Keys are securely kept in a safe place. Be very vigilant in any suspicious or malicious links that requires you to sign in using your ***" Master Key " or your " Active Key " or else your account will be hacked including the tokens in your wallet.
